At the very minimum, there's around 14k players based on the results of the previous Tukayyid tournament:

Add to steam, bleed off a thousand or so for players switching to steam client, and we're looking at a player base of around 20k users.

Pretty far down from the million they had in beta (but ofc that was forum accounts not game accounts)

You can't take numbers from a single mode event and make any assumptions about the actual player base. While 14k players dropped in the Tuk event I had no trouble getting games in solo public queue while ignoring the event entirely.

I'm well aware. It's entirely speculative. But it is a minimum baseline.

that is why i said "assuming here"...

if i remember correctly people had tried to guess the number on previous occassions as well .. the link given by Rhaythe tries to pin the number as well... offcourse its a single event which cannot represent the exact number that is why i was using the figure of 5k for non event population.

Not sure if anyone has noticed the data on that site linked eariler: https://steamdb.info.../342200/graphs/

But over 123,000 people have downloaded MWO so far, and around 59,000 have played. Not all at once of course, but the player pool is pretty expanded.

Their last numbers they released on big packs being sold, they sold 24,000 of them.

Theres about an equal number of people who play who didnt buy them.

Theres about 50k total MWO players. Though not all of them log in every day, week, or month. There might only be 5-20k playing at any given time, depending on events, time of day, weekends, etc.

Theres been about a million individuals to play the game at least once. And around 600k registered on the forums.

Of course some percentage of that were dynamic ips, or people with new ips, downloading the game for the 2nd or 3rd time.

Weve certainly passed a million since then, but I dont think we've passed 1.3 million real unique users.

I have been a steam user for over 6 years.... I down loaded MWO as soon as I was able to and that's how I log in now when I play.

I've stopped using the regular client (downloading is far less painful) starting this patch. I don't see much of a degradation from what I normally see anyways.

Besides, I don't have to wait for the MWO patcher/launcher telling me it's ready to patch even if the Steam download is larger.

Steam has way more bandwidth and will patch in the background. Win and win!

Due to PGI living in the past, patches always drop at about 4am here in Brisbane, so in times past (new 'Mech packs for example) I got up at time to manually load the launcher and click the patch button to ensure I got it down and had a couple of games before going to work.

This morning I had Steam sitting there in the background automatically download the update without my intervention.
