I just flipped through the reviews on steam on behalf of our beloved perfect game.
There are loads of positive reviews and gladly the overall estimate is very positive.

Of course there are bad reviews as well, but I find one fact pretty curious. Almost all (read through 2 pages) bad reviews I found are by experienced players, that state "I still play the game, but.."

I frankly think it's deranged, to play a game and putting in the effort to write a bad review about it to prevent new players from coming in said game. Hell, it's even free.

On behalf of the active community, please stop this s***. If you are b**h**t for some reason, because PGI did not implement a feature you lusted for, broke your dreams with some game mechanic or you just are too lore for a FPS - keep it to the forums here, if you need to take a d...rum.

Thanks

And some reason horrible reviews "Because I hope a better direction for this game, I slam it so hard." - right, it's not healthy man.

So I agree, it is demented. Guess it's the internet at work... sad in any case, one thing is commendable. They are very persistent in their slamming, wish they'd find something better to do with their time.

Bad reviews are as important as good ones. But they should be fair and very general. Most of the forum warrioring definitely shouldn't spill over to Steam.

Despite my gripes, which you all have heard, I'd give this game a thumbs up for sure, especially for a ftp game.

With the amount of white knights over there shoving rose colored glasses on everyone's faces, it's going to be a bitter pill if they discover the same things that ticked off the bittervets this game has earned.

Most people don't read forums anyway. Give it a month before we see the real attitude from gamers who have no loyalty to the source material. Right now my real theme for Steam players coming in is this:

You are young. Life has been kind to you. You will learn.

I have a glimmer of hope with CW Phase 3, but... it's a faint glimmer.

Pretty sure people up/downvote reviews without reading them too. Positive and negative reviews get downvoted even if they are perfectly objective. Totally useless reviews like "worst dev evuuur i hate this game hurr durr" or "best game i have ever played" get like 50% upvotes.

The whole steam release came down to bittervets and whiteknights using a new platform to throw sh*t at each other. The whole process of grown men acting like this is nothing but cringeworthy. People desperate, bored and lonely enough to spend that much time on flinging stuff around the internet even after (allegedly) leaving the game 2 years ago really make me shudder.

it's because rather than not play the game for 1000s of hours then complain bitterly about how much of a waste it was some people just can't get a life outside of a game they supposedly hate in order to avoid feeling like they've had something stolen from them that never existed in the first place.

Too bad there is no "mixed" review option. I would have chosen that, over "positive".

Have no gripe at all towards reasonable bad reviews where the person can at least present some angles. (I'm sure neither side completely agrees with their points, but at least they have some, as opposed to some who are either "bad game, wouldn't buy (But I still play)" or those posting some OLD threads about what hopes were mismanaged / or how PGI screwed up things)

Besides, reasonable opposing views offer ground for growth.

Hi! No loyalty to or knowledge of the IP, here since June 2012 or so.

Maybe it's like being cheated by your GF/BF. Your relationship with her/him is over but you can't stop stalking her/him.

I'm a vet and did a bad review... Sorry, but there are a lot of things that make me think this game is the worst Battletech game i ever played (and i played a lot of them... Well, all of them actually).

Why i'm still playing it?

What other Battletech game can i play nowadays?

You don't like that people give the game bad reviews. I wonder why....

Wish i could set the bar this low for everything. Life would be amazing :P

Yeah, you can't stand that bi.. err game, but you still somehow can't stop creepily following her. Talking behind her back, how bloated she has become. And her performance/balance/whatever, it's nothing like when they were still playing. ("And we DID warn!")

I guess we all know the type, just couple steps in RL from doing something phenomenally stupid for an imagined slight they never recieved (Or maybe they even did, but still.)

I love the Fallout games.

I hate Fallout 4.

Which is why I'm not playing it.

Seems pretty simple to me.

No I just wonder what motivates people who actively discourage people to play a (FTP) game they play themselves.

Most bad-reviews-still-playing-vets see it as a drug. A heroin addict does not recommened heroin to anyone but can not stop using it.

Still a heroin addict though.

Does it HAVE to be Battletech? Just wondering, if it is that bad game, maybe move on to other games until Battletech comes out?

EDIT: I guess the above post applies. I kinda get it, kinda.

I admit, every now and then I get tired of the endless deathmatch. Then I take a break.
But lately I've been playing more and more, I think they are doing something right. At least I'm pleased with the direction.

1. It's really no business of yours to dictate what kind of opinion someone should have about a product, especially one as iffy as MWO.

2. The reviews are for the benefit of people who might not have made up their mind about a game yet, not for people who have clearly decided one way or the other and just want to have a fight over it.

In my review, I posted it as a thumbs down, basically because the items you can buy to support the game are incredibly over priced, and that my opinion is that if someone really tried to get into the game, they would end up being disappointed in how shallow MWO actually is, coupled with the glacial speed of PGI's development (and focus on mechpacks over anything else).

That doesn't mean that it cannot be a fun game, provided you switch your brain off before playing.
