I can't decide which control style I like better, or would be more useful in gunnery.

...Using the toe break definitely for jumpjets, but if you guys have any other ideas throw them out there too.

Torso twist with pedals?! Show me this crazy man who do this... Who in the right mind will separate the axes of torso by the different controllers?

so use the pedals for turning the legs??
no..
i've always used pedals for torso twist.. until the computers stopped having COM ports for external inputs..
I just never upgraded from the pedals because I started using the butterfly on the bottom of my Saitek X45 throttle.

hmm thats a tough one. being an old flightsimmer, i think i'd have to go with chassis left/right since in an airplane the pedals control yaw. torso twist (at least in mw4) was more responsive and thus useful for aiming than turning the mech, which is better with joystick fine control.

I've used torso twist for the rudders across multiple HOTAS controllers (from twist sticks, rudder ****, to multiple the F22pro/TQS/RCS and Cougar with rudders) Stick for azimuth and elevation.
It is much easier to hold a torso twist with rudders and do minor azimuth adjustments with the stick than hold torso twist with the stick while doing aiming (IMO).

I prefer aim with the joystick (move up, down and both sides) and let the pedals for turn the legs to left and right.

After playing more MW4 mercs I've decided on going with pedals controlling chassis left/right.

I had it the other way at first because the joystick x-axis felt natural to turn the vehicle at first (and still does occasionally in panic-mode ;)). I ended up going with the pedal->chassis, mostly because torso twist is faster than legs, which I can put all onto joystick aiming.

...also because MWO has similar controls default for the mouse.

It should really be user configurable along with the toe pedals.

I would like to invite all Kurita pilots to experiment with aiming weapons using their feet when they fight against me.

I wouldn't underestimate pilots who use "their feet" or pedals to aim/move. We get an extra degree of control over keyboard since rudder pedals are analog. :D

Not saying that you can't learn to play that way, but there's no extra control since joysticks are also analogue. I'll be using pedals myself for the leg direction but I think it's more natural to control torso vertical and horizontal with the same device.

At first I said torso, but changed my vote after thinking about it more. My left and right turns don't need to be amazingly precise and as such my terrible posture and poor foot placement on the pedals makes more sense. Full torso movement on the stick seems more intuitive to me now.
Damnit I have talked myself even more into buying the Warthog and combat pedals!

I'm going to use them for torso twist, it's allot quicker and more precise then using them for legs. And It just feels "right" . Also if your Joystick has a pretty stiff spring *Cough* X45*Cough* it's somewhat difficult to do very small movements.

rudder for chassis, and if they allow decoupled arm and torso targeting, IR tracker for torso and mouse/stick for arms. :P

Remf, I like the way you think. :) Although, I think I'd prefer using the stick for torso movement and having the arms slaved to a headtracker, assuming the arms move faster and have greater range of motion. Now here's to hoping for TrackIR support and independent torso/arm controls...

Pedals have to be for leg movement. but since i have no idea how MWO plays maybe after i have tried it ill change my mind.

Read on another thread that trackIR support was in, but it's hearsay at this point, as they have not sent me a beta key yet, and if they had I wouldn't be posting this because of the NDA. ;)

When playing MW3 and 4 I was using a saitek HOTAS setup.

I always used the stick for the torso and a left hand throttle control for the feet.

I believe the upper end of proficency is higher with this setup, since you are using controls on 1 hand to do all your targetting and shooting, and the other hand for direction and speed.

I've never had a HOTAS/pedal setup at home (pondering it for MWO) but when I've had the good fortune to be in a Tesla pod (Fallout Shelter Arcade brings them to CONvergence in Minneapolis every year) I've found torso twist to be easier to manage than turning. Then again, they list that as "intermediate" and chassis as "advanced" so it could be that a couple dozen sessions over 3 years just isn't enough to transition :/
