I see people commenting on how they like the Zeus.....Why?

What makes it more desirable than, say, the Atlas D-DC?

The Atlas with STD 350 has about the same speed, more armor, larger loadout...

Is it the slightly better mobility? Slightly less visibility? What's its appeal factor?

It's small for an assault.
It's tough as hell given it's weight and size.
It's load load outs are not perfect, but there is something rewarding when using the Thunder Fist of Doom!
It's movement is not hindered by the "huge" mech size, I find them fast and maneuverable, again given their weight class.

The thing I like the most if their toughness, kinda think of a larger Thunderbolt.

I like them, it's not my main go to mech, but I had a great time leveling them them and I go back often. I've not piloted an Atlas in months but going off memory it's smaller, faster, and less likely to be the center of attention. It doesn't have the same punch, but there is something to floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee.

Because scale. Zeus is smaller in profile than most (any?) other assault. Also has good torso hit boxes so running an XL is doable. Plus structure and armor quirks (I don't recall specs) make it tanky as hell. Together you can get "fast heavy" speeds without sacrificing firepower or armor. Builds using an XL325 for example let you do things like 3LPL and an AC10 while running in the 70's with near full armor. Try that with an Atlas.

Some of us are old table toppers and love the Zeus. It has always been one of my favorite mechs and I love piloting it now. This game isn't always about what is the most efficient chassis :)

The Zeus 9s was an excellent erll boat, but PGI inexplicably needed the range, now it is worthless.

A Zeus' engine limit caps at 390, which while probably too heavy to be useful, still allows the Zeus to move waaay faster than an Atlas with any of the in between ratings.

I'm with all the guys above. the Zeus is probably my favourite assault. purely because it really isn't an assault, its a heavy that doesn't sit in the overpopulated heavy queue - I generally run them with multiple LPL either 2 or 3, then fill the missilefist up with SRMs. you get great speed (equal or better than most IS heavies) decent firepower (more than a thunderbolt 9SE, maybe not quite as much as an Atlas DDC, but at least you don't have a huge spread of different weapons systems like you get stuck with on an Atlas.)
Probably the biggest benefit compared to other assaults if you stand next to almost any other assault an enemy will choose to shoot the other assault first on the majority of occaisions (except if its a gargoyle maybe)

Because Atlas is almost twice the size (volume), doesn't handle as well, cannot do a proper laser vomit build, and cannot do a one-sided build that's still good.

Note: I have no interest in the other Zeus variants. In their cases I'd probably agree that there are almost strictly better alternatives.

Never discount the 6T, with 3 LRM 15's. The cool down and range quirks make this an interesting build, expecially if you are firing LRMs at under 300 or 400 m with line of sight.
