Hope this hasn't been asked and answered before, but I was just wondering if planetary physics will play any role?

That is, will there be varying gravities and temperatures like we used to be able to set in NetMech? (er, at least with the editors)

I long for the day when gravity and temps were a factor in drop zones....crawling along at a snails pace, jump jets useless...but in that ice cold environment, it was REALLY difficult to overheat....or skating along in near zero grav, flying around, but that Mercury like environment made it really dangerous to even THINK about an alpha strike....

Just curious. And eager to play.

And Wind, and Weather, and dampness on my powder! Slippery streets, all that stuff! Gravity, Lava planets, Ice Planets... all that...

Don't run on a rainy street and change direction, you'll tumble! (I hope).

That's one of the things I loved about the older games. Slap lots of jump jets on my mech and go to a low grav planet and hover around. I hope they add in something like that. Makes the planets unique you know?

I can't recall if there was anything like that in MW4 Mercs or not.. I don't think the hot/cold maps had any effect on heat management,

Hot and Cold yes, Day/Night/Fog yes, Gravity/Weather effects were non existant.

What variety of environments can players look forward to? Will different climates pose challenges?
BE: Absolutely. Because heat is a huge part of this game, we have selected a range of maps, from very cold worlds to very hot worlds, to everything in between. And scenarios that take advantage, and force the player to think about heat in different ways.

Gonna have heat managment anyway, probably weather, no indications of gravity yet.

i hope there is my self, loved that about MW2 being on the diffrent planets with diffrent gravities heat and what not. ;) MWLL did it pritty well so cant see why MWO wouldnt.

While that would be very interesting, I doubt this would make it into the game... at least at first.

To be honest, 80% of the suggestions I see will probably not make it into the game, people are trying to add millions of tiny variables to try to encompass the entire battletech universe. While the passion is commendable, this game at launch will probably have the scope of MW4 (more or less) when it comes to in depth mechanics.

But I would also say that most of the communities suggestions are very interesting. The good news is that they have said they will constantly update the game with new content. So eventually you could possibly have a few maps that had low gravity implications. But most likely we are going to get a somewhat bare-bones, raw game when it releases. It hurts me to say that, but I am trying to be realistic.

Either way its fun to speculate what could be possible. Gravity and heat are easy to tweak, but I do not know that they will mess with gravity just yet. Who knows, maybe. Without any gameplay footage to go on, all we can do is speculate.

Only Problem I see is with gravity effects. Mechwarriors are not set up for extreme heavy G environments. They can't wear G-suits because they would dehydrate and pass out in the cockpit. Most IS mechwarrior wear only a cooling vest and shorts and even then the heat burden on them can be overpowering. There were Star League era cooling suits that were more like tradditional flight suits but even those weren't set up for heavy g environments. Now Light G environments might be permissable but most of those worlds don't have breathable atmospheres. Which means if your cockpit gets cracked, you are breathing stuff that isn't real healthy.

As far as weather and other effects I am all for it. I especially like nightfighting. I played through all the Mech 4 games trying every mission I could on the night setting.

I home whenever you power-up your mech at the start of the game, the computer tells you the current planet and ambient temperature and all that good stuff just like in MW2. Oh how i miss MW2.

Ah yes, good ol' Betty. Loved the way she purred the situation stats. No matter how grim the situation, she still made you wanna kiss her..."Ammo....depleted." LOL! Saw a post long ago (on dropship command or maybe it was badKarma) about the gal who voiced MW2. Interesting read, I'll try to find it.
