For starters, I'm going to assume you're running the game in Full Window mode, which is designed for being able to switch in and out. Full Screen mode, is not, and MOST games out there that run in a true full screen mode do not take kindly to alt-tabbing in and out. In fact a lot crash when you do so.
Full Window mode does not take away from your performance, by the way. A tip for anyone using Full Window and wondering why they might be getting lower performance- having other windows 'active' while MWO is running does seep performance. So make you minimize programs like internet browsers rather than just directly switching back to MWO via alt-tab or the task bar.
Alt-tab only works if there are actually other windows to switch to anyway. That's the function of the control. So that's not PGI's problem.

Alt-Tabbing works A-OK for me. Perhaps it's the OP's rig? I really don't have any issues with it.

So um.. what's the actual problem... in some sort of detail? I run fullscreen windowed and never have had this issue. Are you running actual fullscreen? Because actual fullscreen blows if you need to switch to other windows.

Not gonna lie, the alt-tab bug is incredibly annoying. I really wish they'd fix it.

Not sure what the OP problem is, but I do get tired of the random black screens when Alt-Tabbing back into the game. Especially if you tab out during the map load screen.

CTRL+SHIFT+ESC for a task manager shortcut.
As others have said, not something PGI can do anything about.

Try Ctrl+Esc, followed by Alt Tab
