A couple of days ago I saw the Archer pre-purchase website and I got super excited about it. The problem is that I think we should know about the quirks before pre-purchasing just to have a general idea to what expect (no hating, just saying). Secondly I already have a Catapult elited, is it worth getting a second heavy 'mech focused on LRMs?
Thank you for your time!

You also dont know how (messed up) the hitboxes will be before you even played the mech.
The only thing you know is where the weapon slots are ad the stuff like engine cap and so on from the purchase page.

the Tier 1 crowd will decry it as garbage. Even with a ton of missile ports, they hate missiles. How many times have I been treated like a paste-eating child when I take an LRM-boat, or even something with a single LRM rack, to a CW match?
I might buy them, but because I want to have a full roster of Mechs "the Draconis Combine would have according to the RATs found in Historical War of 3039 / Era Report 3052", not because "It's the meta".

What's wrong with LRMs in CW?

As an energy sniper, it'll be straight up inferior to the Thunderbolt. The extra 5 tons of weight won't make up for the hardpoint locations.
It's basically a Catapult with arms. I imagine it's going to get better energy quirks where Catapult gets better missile quirks. It could potentially be the best IS SRM boat, but those missile doors aren't ideal for surprise attacks.
The CPLT-C1 is a bit too hot when you run LRM's and LL's together, but the Archer might do that better, due to more tonnage and (presumably) better energy quirks.
As for the quirks... even if you do know about them, PGI can change them five times the next five months, for all you know. The only thing that is always certain about quirks is that they are going to change at some point.

What's wrong with LRMs in CW?
1. You have to tank your share in a serious CW match. Standing behind is reducing the chance of winning and when you are the last guy in your LRM mech standing behind you die in 3 seconds as soon as the enemy spots you.
2. Direct fire weapons deliver the damage where you need it. CT, XL ST, Legs whatever. LURMs spread damage and do not all even hit the target.
3.Many maps have so much cover obstacles that you cannot hit sh*t with LURMs e.g. Grim Portico. How often have i seen LRM boats fireing volley after volley into the obstacles without carring that they cannot hit EVEN if they see the missiles hit the obstacle.
4.To make LURMs even mildly effective you need NARCers and TAGers which could also bring weapons instead which reduces overall team performance again.
So if you want to help your team in CW bring direct fire weapons and push when everybody else pushes, brawl when everybody else brawls and poke when everybody else pokes.
I have played my share of LURM on my notebook which was able to do 15 FPS only.
But when I got my new rig and FPS was top notch allowing me to hit stuff with direct fire wepons I found that LURMs are TEHH EEEVIL. There are soooo many counters to them and they are soo bloody ineffective.
I have never understood how players can enjoy playing LURMs especially when standing 500m behidntheir own team and all they contribute is "please lock targets".
Overall i expect the Archer to be a pretty good mech because of its cockpit placement and nice combination of lasers and SRM.

I pretty much pre-order it cause when I played Table Top my merc group had two of them instead of Cats. Along with two Mauraders, Atlas, Warrhamer, Shadowhawk, Hunchback and a few lights meds to fill out the group depending on drops. So I pre-order pretty much cause this is how I'm filling out mos of my mechbay with all my old fav mechs and than some. I liked it better cause it worked better as an all around LRM boat compared to the Cats. It had better set up to be able to protect it self if some pesky light found it.
