Hello all

I've been having a bad run in MWO recently.

Im not talking losing streaks – we all get those and they always balance out and my Tier is steadily on the rise, my W/L is equal etc.

Im talking about my own personal contribution – I feel like my game has gone downhill in the last week. It’s a bit hard to explain. But I feel like I’m being carried in almost every match. I still get high damage, multi kill games, but I feel that those are currently down to pure luck and not skill.

I don’t know what has changed – my ping is the same, I play at the same times on the same servers, I use the same mechs and same tactics. I cant believe it to be because of the Pot of Gold event as getting 150 is mostly a case of just turning up.

To rectify things I've tried changing mechs - weight class and variants. Lasers vs. ballistics

I've tried different tactics – First to the fight vs. last to the fight. Mid-range vs. short range

But its not working. Its probably making me worse.

I can’t post a video of my games for appraisal as I have absolutely no idea what-so-ever of how to do it.

Im not after sympathy, or a hug, or a pat on the back, or a “there, there Soul, things will surely get better, just you wait and see”

Im after any suggestions/ ideas as to how to get back on track. Ive never been a great player, but I'd at least like to do as well as I can when I do play.

What do you do when your game goes downhill?

Ideas, suggestions, motivation, insults (git gud) welcome.

Well being in the same tier as you I know I get in slumps when I change from mech to mech. So like this pot of gold event I setup each of my (O) variants and hopped from one to the next. So when I got tired of the pug life (because I am not in a unit at this moment) I hopped into CW and setup a 4 EBJ drop deck list to master them out (they all were elited before hand). So in doing so I dropped out of CW and ran them in solo (can get wins in solo que but not in CW with CGB). In doing so I was getting really good match scores like 3 or 4 kills and 700 to 900 damage matches, and I think it has more to do with I had been doing a lot of drops in them and I just have the feel for them.

Give yourself a goal, be it something simple or something hard. Sometimes i like to try to leg 2 mechs nto even kill them. Just plan to start my games by legging two separate mechs and give the team a chance to kill them while I run around in a Light or something.

I often just try to minimize mistakes or help others when they make one. I am constantly trying to up my game and cut out mistakes BEFORE i make them.

Its the on thing in this game that seems to kill you the most, that first mistake.

Personally, I just take a break when I sense a downward spiral. Sometimes you just fall into a losing streak and it's easy to get frustrated. When you're frustrated, you make bad decisions. Some people become too cautious when they're frustrated. I personally get way too aggressive But taking a break from the game always seems to help. When I get back into it, I'm thinking more about having fun and finally playing the game again, and I play better.

I was grinding hardcore a while back to get to Tier 1 and it really had a negative impact on my performance. Lately, I've just been playing my Clan account for fun, and it's had a great impact on my performance. Saw a Mist Lynx thread yesterday, so I got into my Mist Lynx for the first time in a long while. Boom, 550 damage, 3 kills.

So yeah. Take a break. Go play Transport Tycoon Deluxe, make a 5-way quadruple track monorail intersection. Return to the game when you're not so worried about the losing streak anymore.

Whenever I feel that I am not contributing enough, I bring in my 3xUAC5 Jagers. The other side usually does not stand a chance. Posted Image

*edit* Just now played a game in Polar. Enemy Assault lance had a lot of LRMs. Dakka still prevailed.

Your over thinking it.

Watch Bull Durham and do everything exactly like Costner tells Robins to do.
Guaranteed to get you out of the slump.

Or tin cup.

If I'm having a major slump, I do one of two things: Either run a mech silly enough that you EXPECT it to fail, and thus are happily surprised if you break your slump, but if you don't, you're still having fun just because it's a fun build. For instance, 6 MG Shadow Cat. My other option? Go and play some Stardew Valley to relax until I have the urge to pilot mechs again.

This. Got sick of trying to basic my JR7-IIC-2, so built it with 2 flamers, Narc and 2ML. Goal: Narc everyone at least once AND force 2 shutdowns. Chasing 6xspl jenners around in it is priceless. Or I go all-out in my narc MLX: NARC, ECM, AMS, 1MPL. The point is to get my mind out of the KMDD mentality and just dedicate myself to sowing chaos and contributing to the team effort by narc'ing everything in sight.

Hmm... when I'm in a slump (or want to make sweet sweet dosh) I either grab my oxide or my jenner IIC (O). They are perfect for my Boom and Zoom playstyle and it's not uncommon for me to hit 3-4 solo kills and 500+ damage. Of course if I get noticed Jenners tend to instasplode so... it's fair enough IMO.

Metal. Blues. blues... Short change hero. I always die doing dumb rambo **** when i listen to short change hero.
I get down to business when i listen to blues.
Relax.
Find your rhythm.

P.S. Alpha strike over chain fire.
P.P.S. Did you by chance go up a tier?

Hello all.

Im the OP.

Thanks for all the answers, replies and suggestions - I shall take them all on board.

The new patch and Mechs introduced today will hopefully bring new opportunities and a fresh outlook, plus I'll be able to switch from running meta (correct term?) heavies to an ECM/ AMS Kit Fox for a change of pace.

@Gibbs Leroy J - I haven't just changed Tier.

When I get in a bad funk of bad/unenjoyable games, I try to playing exclusively on different servers, or all servers if I only have one or two selected or I'll switch it up a bit and play at different times of the day. Other than that, there's not much you can do once the MM decides to use you as punching bag...other than take a break from the game.

You're in a rut. It's only variance. Or maybe burnout. Or both.

Or...

Wait, no that's it.
