Say what? Forge Alliance was the most complete and best rts ive ever seen. I wished they would have remade it with a better engine rather than kill the franchise with supcom2. FA Forever Lobby has user created patches that balance the game better or fixes it with user created game mode solo/coop if that's your thing.

Forged Alliance wrecked the economic complexity, created a semi-forced opening and flattened the late game. Compared with vanilla SupCom it was more on rails.

FA wasn't bad, but it wasn't what SupCom was, either.

Just to continue with the derail.....

You are all nuts. The only 2 great RTS games ever were Homeworld and Company of Heroes. No others come close. Notice they were both made by RELIC in Vancouver before the next generation of internet geniuses sprung up in town.

Personally I think that the STEAM thing has probably doubled the population at this point. Hard to say what it will do going forward, but I think that PGI is gong to squander a golden opportunity.

They should be pushing for more front page time, even if they have to pay for it. They should have had an advertising campaign of some sort, but as usual they have never seemed particularly adept at that.

Company of Heroes lacked economy and resource management that games like TA, StarCraft and AoE had.

Homeworld was okay. I beta tested but my computer ran it like butt so I never got the full game. Stupid AMD K6-2 weak FPUs.

So I don't seem to understand... why doesn't Russ put his money where is mouth is and reinstate a player counter back into MW:O, one would think he'd like to back up his claim?

Gilligan's island by the laughable amount of rage still being spouted...would have thought all the ganja on that island would mellow them out....

According to the poll, there were around 5,000 players on that island that voted on the forums.

...It sure would be nice to have all those that left back.

See, I see how CoH handled it as better. It wasn't left to the guy who could harvest more resources, instead you had to control areas of the map to increase your resources. That made every point in the game valuable. Movement and counter attacks, slipping behind the front to cut of resources, all became important.

Well Vanilla SupCom wasn't about harvesting resources either. It was about becoming self sufficient to where you didn't need to harvest resources anymore. It had the most complex resource and economic management of any RTS I have ever seen. It was fantastic and really distanced the skilled and thoughtful players from the bad ones.

Ghost Heat and CW. That's likely what killed most of those numbers.

I do not know anyone personally who has left the game due to ghost heat or CW being what it is, although it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume. However I do know of several players who uninstalled MW:O over forced 3PV. Consumables made a lot of players leave as well.

So why are they trying to kill the game , with the "chose your version of Skirmish" voting system?

isnt that what all the apologists for the busted game mode vote are saying? "Not enough players"

Know what is sad, is those players have not played lots of online games like many of you have indicated. I am one of those. I do not even own a X-Box/PS2-4. (chuckles) It reminds me of when I was looking to get another jeep. After I had made the comment I had last purchased my current vehicle, a jeep 11 years ago, one sales person at local dealership made the comment that it was people like me that was wrong with the current economy by not trading in or purchasing vehicles every few years. Even with that comment they did have a jeep I really liked but located a better deal a few days later, 5 miles away, 2 years older, 20k fewer miles and 3 grand less with very little scale/surface rust. It had not seen the East Coast and its salt-drowned winter roads...

If Russ would be clever he would make an event that only counts for people plaiyng via steam client, therefore making everyone using the stema client to upping the steam statistics. If said event goes 1 or 2 weeks a lot people not playing daily would have time to show up in the steam statistics.

If the number of players really is so great they need to bring mode selection back and/or stop mixing tiers. I can't handle pugs on assault/conquest, just can't handle it. I'm having so much more fun with no armor LRM boats and 12 flamer novas than actually trying to work with these clowns.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how the professor could build anything they needed out of coconuts...except a boat.

If one plays and enjoys the game, wtf does knowing some number make any real difference to said enjoyment? This place is funny. ;)

Forced 3PV? 3PV was *never* forced, it was an option and at one point the default setting. But it was never forced.

IF this were true there would be no reason to hide it.

They aren't hiding it since some numbers are available on steam anyway. I would guess that steam adoption is probably 50% or less (possibly a lot less) of existing players since not everyone has a steam account and even if they do they may not want to shift to it since it would mean an additional download. Achievements and friends on steam only matter to folks who actually use steam much. If you use the 50% number you easily wind up with the 6000 to 8000 number (or a bit higher) based on the numbers from steam. So MWO probably runs 5k to 10k concurrent players most of the time which isn't too bad.

Sorry, not related but I can't believe AOE is still riding the charts so strong. Puts these modern day rts' to shame

Total wars not doing badly either, but yes, shows that quality over graphic wins, if the game play has a big enough hook

52k was the highest during Closed Beta

We sold 75k Founder Accounts

Screen shot? Other folks are quoting 1 to 3k concurrent players based on screenshots taken during closed beta.
