I have an event or custom feature suggestion.
If anyone recalls the swirling Lrm Artemis missiles of doom from before clan mechs arrived.
That was some of the coolest effects and funniest times I had in mech warrior.
I had no idea cry engine could control so many Lrms moving around similar to the Ancient Drones from Star Gate series. That was just amazing to watch. I think it might have been so cool that everyone stopped shooting at the enemy, to watch the Lrms spiraling in streams and clusters.
Shortly after, people started complaining about how op they were. I however did not see any difference in damage. I saw a new pattern that made people want to use them more.
The players that I saw receiving killing blows from LRMs, were not well equipped with a AMS. Neither was their team, well equipped with AMS, or ECM coverage.
Yet this amazing feature was abandoned due to certain players opinions. Some even thought it reduced the damage going from cluster to more stream like. Streaming does reduce damage when AMS is equipped. that part is true. However when AMS is not on a mech, it does not make them any more deadly.
15 missiles is still 15 missiles they just might have a tighter stream to narrow in on, with a cluster or two inside the stream, but it is still 15 missiles.
It was not more op it was more accurate with more vulnerability to AMS.
That looks like a balanced damage option in making. If you allow Both Clan or I.S. to benefit from this it could balance out both sides.
With all that being stated, you can see the people complaining the most about the missiles, must have not been utilizing AMS protection.
Bring back this feature in some way.
Why not just add this feature as a Event or something short term so players can experience the marvels that Cry Engine is capable of. Once or twice a year have an Lrm swarm fest, or swirling doom event, or something.
Or you add this feature as a New module unlock, there by making players have to spend Gxp to unlock it as a skill feature. This way they are earning to right to use it.
Why not add more than 2 types of missile patterns. Add as many custom patterns as you wish. Just make sure players have to spend Gxp to earn it, and it is all optional content.
You could make special mech modules that allow you to keep certain features of an event like spiraling missiles permanently, but only available during an event. Also earned by spending Gxp.
You could add missile patterns as a option for custom weapons modules. This would allow you to fire certain missile batteries in clusters, or spiraling streams, or spiraling clusters, or spiraling clusters with streams. Refer to one of my other topics for the custom weapons system I speak of.
However you want to sell this feature to us is up it to you. Just please please please make it all optional content. I do not think players are happy when forced to use something new.
I for one prefer more optional content. If LRMs are going to bring my battle mech down, I want to be in style. The swirling Lrms were soo much fun. =)

Curious topic but I don't really see why swirling lrms weren't OP. I remember logging into the game and then playing a match in a match in a mechw ithout AMS. Back then AMS also took more tonnage so equippinfg it was less likely. The nex thing a noticed in the giame while playing RIver City as the fact that you couldn't run away from those Artemis Lrms no matter how hard you tried. They even the tracked the mech even if it was behind a several storey building. The fact they we're swirling didn't make it OP but the fact that they could track the mech in such a fashion did. Having that sort of tracking capability in the game with UAVS and other ECM disabling and tracking equipment wouldn't be a very good thing. So no I don't think that patch needs to revisited but the swirling lrm's could still be an effect added by Artemis or other missile-upgrading-system. It was the tracking that made the missiles OP:

It was the "double helix" pattern. I would like to see them back with 'direct fire' missile launchers (and combined with a flat trajectory).
The upward launch angle is very unreliable (and can change from launch to launch).

Now that you mention the trajectory. Yeah I think it was the way the missiles went over and down buildings that everyone was upset about. So yeah leave the trajectory as it is now. Just change the pattern the missiles have to make them more lively. That is what I'm asking for.

I like the idea of bringing back the swirling LRMs, but not in any of the options presented in the poll. If anything, I'd like PGI to save the idea for a future implementation of Artemis V (future timeline).
