EVE Online has a neat way to create corporation logos, you can select 3 symbols and colours from a list of a few dozen. It would be naff amount of data on the link and you can make some interesting ones quite easily.

This is all I've found about decals on mechs - at least it's something!

Excerpt from Dev Blog 6 - Mechlab

...the player can select a decal to place on their BattleMech. Decals can only be applied to predetermined locations based on the BattleMech/chassis type.

The locations in which a player can place a decal will automatically highlight when a decal has been selected. The player then drags and drops the decals into the available slots on the BattleMech.

This was in regards to pre-made decals that are part of a decal library in the mechlab to further clarify.

I don't see them adding in custom up-loadable badges/eblems like you can find in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II because of copyright infringements they don't want to deal with. But I imagine something along the lines of CoD personal emblems/Battlefield 3 Platoon emblems.

1) Copyright issues.
2) Pornography. Everyone would just put pictures of a dick or nude women's vaginas on the side of their Mech. This is ALWAYS the case in games when you let people freely put images on something. Just earlier I was in a TF2 game that had a picture of the stereotypical "Jesus" with a huge dick on it. The text on it read "You have done well my child, now claim your reward." I mean I'm a Goth Atheist and I found that stupid. It is also not good when kids will be on the game. It also makes the rest of us look bad. I don't know about you but I don't like being generalized with the immature crowd that thinks dicks pictures sprayed everywhere or randomly written text below animal images is funny. Your playerbase will only be as good as you allow them to be or force them to be. Simply put if you let them be trash, they will be trash. I've never seen any different. Seeing a nice large dick painted on the side of every Mech is honestly what you would be allowing if you let players use whatever they want. No thanks.

If they do let us select Emblems or Insignias, I hope it is from a shop of pre-created ones from Piranha, not custom ones that anyone can select at will. It would be a great thing to have in their shop for a little $ too.

Edit: Dick is censored but not vaginas???

People don't call each other vaginas, usually. People call them dicks.

here's one possible solution, since it's a F2P and, consequently, they're going to be selling vanity... make it so you can buy icons but they have to be approved before you can install them on your mech (pays for the poor sap that's gotta look through all the icons for infringements)

Or, alternatively, have all House, Merc, and Clan logos already available. Since we know for certain they already have the rights to the House and Clan emblems, and it's a safe assumption they have the Merc ones as well. Piranha doesn't want people running around with specific cannon units, but they haven't cared much with some of the other ones.

I would like to see custom emblems implemented, but there are the aforementioned copyright and vulgarity concerns that have been voiced. In all seriousness, the playerbase for MW:O is not really the same as that with TF2 or CoD: Black Ops. Yes, there are going to be people who feel the need to compensate - this is an omnipresent fact - but that doesn't mean they have to ruin the fun for everyone. Implement Moderators who have the power to temp ban (with an appeal process - there are bad Mods too) or something similar.

Plenty of modern games have customizable emblems. Copyright isn't an issue for the most part (The only time I've seen legal threats over player-made content was in City of Heroes, allowing players to create a likeness of wolverine, including the claws, as a playable character).

Offensive material is always an issue but you just have a report function.

Personally, I'm more interested in being able to write on my mech. I want to write " Quit Hatin' " across his chest. Or like that Atlas in one of the CBT starter books that has "YO' MOMMA" written on the chest :D

So true.

And not only this but people using nudity and crude words and images on their mechs, which will tear down to shreds the atmosphere out of the game as well as cause some troubles with copyrights laws and childs´parents.

But the real military put nudity and crude words on their equipment all the time. lol

you're allowed somewhat more liberty when people are actually shooting live rounds at you. Plus it was pretty rare that they were more nude than pinup style, crude words are to be expected :D
