Also, why did you make a new account? I would think you could use your old account to join a group.

You can use "LFG" on the bottom right (In Game) and it'll help you find people to drop with.
But THAT is for masochists. This is because everyone in a group is -- by definition -- in a group. No solo players there. Also no real balancing for skill differences in the group queue. Can drop against the "pros", could drop against people who don't even know which button is to shoot.
The Solo queue has only solo players, no one is in a group. Someone just takes a direction and people either follow or don't. Stick together is the best bet, but be aware of your surroundings. I keep getting behind players and taking them out and all their teammates are clueless because they get tunnel vision.
If you mean like a 'guild' type thing (we call them units or mercs), you need to finish 25 matches before you can post in other threads on the forum. Then go to here to browse Unit/Merc ads. There is a Hiring Hall as well.
Also: Your regular account would be better suited for group play too. >.>

Once you're in a group you will see + signs by people's names. Click on that and you can add them to your friends list. You might also note players you found in matches and send friend requests to them, but that is a little harder. You can also meet people in teamspeak rooms, accessed with the external 3rd party teamspeak program. Different factions and units will have their own and there are a couple of servers, like the "No Guts No Galaxy" and "Comstar" servers, which are open to everyone regardless of faction. Addresses of those are:
na1.mech-connect.net
for Comstar and
voip01.n1585.hypernia.net:9992
for "No Guts No Galaxy."
You can also meet people by reading forum posts, and the faction page here.
In the faction section you can find information about units, or you can ask people who have a unit tag by their name in brackets (for instance [HHOD] or [CGBI]). You can also search the web as many units have sites, but the first two options are probably best. Once you decide to join a unit, there is usually a process for joining. Some units want you to fill out a form on their website with some basic info on you. Most will want you to group and drop with them a few times so you know each other and how you play. Different units have different playstyles and focuses.
The primary benefit of joining a unit is to have a consistent group of people to, er, group with.

Faction has absolutely no effect on normal drop play, where you can use any mech you want. It only affects you if you want to play Community Warfare, something you don't need to really worry about before you have played awhile.

No, the quote isn't by an account Liao Spokesperson. It has been altered deliberately.

As you may have noticed, many of the newly hired units are extremely enthusiastic. When the Federated Commonwealth fails to offer adequate resistance, these mercenaries may find their way to the House Marik world designated for joint Free Worlds League Military and Capellan Confederation Armed Forces joint exercises. Should you choose to engage them in spirited competition, I'm certain the practice will be beneficial to both sides.
Should the Chancellor's new employees accidentally break something in the process, such as the local Free World's League planetary government, please let us know! We can always discuss arrangements for suitable compensation later, should it become an issue.
Meanwhile, I encourage everyone to stay focused on the important things in life: shooting Davions and getting paid!
Thanks for your patience and understanding! Happy Fedrat hunting!
Yay for politics!

Hate to correct you on this one Kon.

That said OP, Kon's right on the hiring hall link and the factions in the Community warfare forum will give you access to loyalist units as well.
Good luck in finding one that fits your community needs.

I'm aware of sync dropping, but it's neigh impossible unless using servers on low population times or having very similar player tiers. And even when playing solo players can post recruitment links.
Only time I can get truly consistent success is with one person accompanying me and even then we only make it about 3/5ths of the time during slow hours on the US servers. (2 players in the group queue just really sucks...)

on occaision myself and some others in my unit have tried synch dropping, more often than not none of us would end up in the same match, when we do it is usualy 1 one on each side, but on 1 occasion we got 7 in one game, 3 on 1 side, 4 on the other.
several times I have ended up on the same team as other PL members but that is almost always by accident

Heck, half the fun is NOT being on the same side. Here. This is how we do a Seraphim Scramble.

You might enjoy some posts in the Liao forum section posted by someone who jokingly refers to himself as "The Voice of the Chancellor."

I, for one, welcome our friend-blasting overlords. It is definitely fun to run into people you know. Nevertheless, it is true there is no way to consistently synch drop on the same team. When you end up in that state it is basically a happy accident. Even then, it's the same as any PUG, in that you have coordination by voip if at all. The only difference being you're more likely to listen to your friends even if no one else does.
