So, I popped an idea out of my head late one night. While I enjoy the paper doll, to a very limited degree, I was thinking about how it was, well, bland, and sometimes confusing.
So I did some artwork.
Instead of the paper doll indicating ones own mech being the stock figure it is now, one would think that a mech would know what chassis it was.
Restating that: The Chassis is listed under your own battlemech's paper doll, so you know what you are piloting. I would guess a computer system on these things would know what the chassis was and would be able to distinguish it a bit more easily than other mechs in the field.
This distinction to the home computer aboard the mech would allow for a more detailed damage readout, not too much more detailed, but at least in the shape of one's own mech. Like so:
For an Atlas Pilot:

Or a Spider Pilot:

(Size would be about the same in game)
The paper doll of enemy mechs being kept the same as the computer on a battlemech I would assume would be kept versatile and flexible to a wide range of targets.
This could also allow the creation of "special" boxes, such as the Timberwolf's paperdoll becoming:

With special boxes being labeled S1,S2,S3..so on.
These would then reduce to a lineart once the armor is destroyed on a location, looking something like this:

Creating a damaged Spider in game looking a bit like this:

- A Spider with a missing Right arm and torso, and a missing left leg, all other components armored with varying degrees of damage.
Just a thought.
