A quick video to showcase the PNT-9R Panther if you are thinking about buying it.

Please note it seams SirLucien is a Battletech die-hard fan, playing his mech in its stock configuration. Good for him if it's his thing, but I'd certainly not recommend that.
The Panther is a pretty nice mech though, if you want to know how it looks in MWO I've made several videos of it (mostly in "lore friendly" builds, with PPCs and large lasers).

Yup, have to respect someone who runs a stock Panther in mid-tier games Posted Image.

Panther's in a bit of a tight spot in MWO, as the best I gather, the "meta" crowd basically acknowledges a single variety of light mech: the "striker" with the largest possible XL engine and boating a *hit ton of short or medium range weapons. Panther never really fit that, because even with the biggest engine it's not quite so quick, and it can't boat energy weapons very well, and anything it does boat is in that single, vulnerable arm.

I've had relatively good luck though with the Panther, running it in its intended role: as a light but tough long-range support mech. I always tweak my mechs to "3050 spec", but when possible, I try to retain the mech's essential lore flavour. My 9R puts a Twin-ERLL in the gun arm, while downgrading the SRM launcher to a SRM2 and getting up-engined to STD-200. It still plays "like a Panther" but works pretty nice in MWO.

Oh, there certainly is a long range meta, and the Panther does well enough at this game.
With the new quirks the 9R is no longer the best PPC boat (the 10K is) and works pretty nicely with 3 ERLLas (-15% heat, +10% range, -10% duration). But its problem is, while it's an excellent right corner poker, it's not really good in other situations, that makes you less flexible (and thus more predictable) than for example a Raven.
