I've been using a USB headset for this game for a while now. It seems to work. Audio quality on the mic is not great. I heard a guy in a game about a week ago that sounded like he had a pro audio set up for his voice.

I have a fairly decent condenser mic with a preamp plugged into my computer in the rear panel "Line In" jack (blue) which I have for home recording purposes. I figured I would give it a try as my VOIP mic just for fun. Its been driving me crazy though because it will work in any other program I try it in but MWO just won't let me use it.

I've set it as the default device, followed all the steps in the Troubleshooting thread but I can't get it to work. The mic on my USB headset works just fine in game.

Is there an issue with it being "Line In" rather than a microphone input? I don't believe the Microphone input is ideal for a condenser + preamp since the level might be too hot.

I'm curious if anyone else has tried this or has a similar set-up...

I also tried the condenser mic in the rear panel "Microphone" jack (pink) and it did not work in game. It appears on the drop down list in the audio settings, as it did in the Line In jack but no sound is transmitting and no indicator that I'm speaking.

Strange since it works in other chat programs and recording software.

I don't have a front microphone jack but I wonder if MWO is being fussy about that...

Oh well, back to my headset for now.

I cant get my USB mic to work so there you go (it is like I need boost +60bd since it is "working" but only if you scream). All other games normal.

The voip in this game was kind of an after thought. They were forced to put I in after much complaining and it has never been great. Saying that I use a turtle beach headset and no one has any issue with the sound quality off my mic. Bit if you have the kit it should work. I suggest you send a support ticket and see what the PGI tech boys have to say.

This is so frustrating. I don't have a great headset but it works fine for phone calls and teamspeak but in game it either works fine some matches and have to scream others. But in the end you're almost better not saying anything, because only half the team will respond and the rest will hide.... then you're divided and will die to the other bad team, who are at least cowering together.

But seriously PGI, people have been talking over wires for what, 100 years now? Get it together.

Good suggestion, I'll see what support says. Seems like VoIP has been inconsistent for others too.

MWO support got back to me with copied and pasted info from the Troubleshooting thread after I said I had already tried everything it suggested. Oh well.

I had a lot of trouble with a new headset trying all the things suggest in the trouble shooting guide until I turned up the microphone boost (+20dB in my case) in my audio manager in windows. The MWO one in settings made no diffrenece at all

Used PGIs voip when they first introduced it. Worked for two matches then stopped working. Checked my settings, checked the forums for solutions, uninstalled and reinstalled the client and nothing worked.

Teamspeak seems to work fine. Just MWO seems to be borked.
