I read Captain Blood, the novel, when I was twelve, a year after I started playing Battletech in 1988. I made my Mechwarrior Nathan Bloode and used iterations of him for years. Thought he'd fit again for my IS merc jock. :D

A fondness for Hammerheads - (Sphyrna mokarran) - a strong apex solitary preditor that is known to both school as a group and hunt on its own.

Mine has been my Gamerhandle and nickname amongst my gamer friends for 9-10 years now. It originated from this video, my friends were convinced that this dog was my spirit animal and that we also looked alike.

<--- there's the link.

Please don't judge me.

I picked Rabitldr er...many years ago.

I had to shorten it for World War II Online with only one B. I got the chance to fix it but I got too used to it. If any players form there follow me here then they will know me.

As far as background, Robert Shaw in The Battle of Britain held the call sign. He's about the only one in the movie that doesn't get shot down, emotionally traumatised, have anyone important to him killed...he just goes through the movie thoroughly British and shoot down The Boch on great numbers.

As a dirty convict in OZ though it may be seen with a different connotation...

Way back in school, me and a few mates were doing that 'that cloud looks like a...' thing. It came to my turn and the only cloud in sight was pretty much plain, so all i could think of was 'It's a stormcloud in disguise, an albino stormcloud' The name stuck and as a joke i spent a few years being called Al. The shortened version of it just sounds pretty cool so i kept it.

Mine is a bit of a mixture between an acronym and my favorite game character.

GHK Stands for "Göttlicher Hilfsbereiter Killer" (german for godlike helping killer").
And Alucard, well... ever since I played Castlevania: SOTN the character appealed to me, hence I "borrowed" the name and thus GHK Alucard was born.

Greetings,
GHK

pen and paper D&D, before there was an AD&D.
i liked to roll up clerics and on my way to a friends house for another game i passed someones place and from their house i could hear this voice coming over their radio very loudly as some preacher was yelling a call to prayer.
later when AD&D came along i developed a taste for cleric assassins that i would tell the rest of the party was a thief.
yea i would convince the DM that i could have a true neutral alignment and pull this of in a party with a paladin.
the name took double meaning then.

Lots of good stories in this thread! Seems there's a bunch of old p&p rpg:ers around. Myself included.

Stringfellow always ended up being my best pilot in MechCommander (iirc there's a Stringfellow in both 1 & 2).

That and Airwolf.

During one game registering (can't remember wich). I putted Alzoc3 as nickname. Didn't knew why on the moment, just went throught my head and sounded cool. Then I kept that nickname for everything on the net.

Several year later played on a game I haden't played for a while: Star wars empire at war.
During the campaign saw a Frozen Planet on the top left corner of the galaxy ( If it can exist^^) called Alzoc3
Must had remebered that don't know how.

(Sorry for the past might be very bad^^)

Mine is rather simple....my name...for military purposes.
When I volunteered for service waaay back, the USA decided I could not use my Canadian name.
So...they asked me for one.
I picked a character from an old sci-fi novel....one about a time travelling lawman.
It has been my name for so long...I almost forget the one I was born with.

Because something tells me that the great-hammer wielding God-Emperor of the Empire would absolutely love to flail around in a giant mech and absolutely wreck things instead of taking on giants and dragons with medieval weaponry.
