New to the game
Im wanting to get a Assault Hero mech but I really cant decide. Playstyle isn't really an issue so I want to get something that is competitive right now.

I already own a king crab and I like it very much so far but it doest have a hero variant.

HAHA too bad the boars head is badass looking but yeah I would have chosen the Misery already but I just cant get over how goofy it looks like a giant chicken!

Im not saying no but whats your second choice?

That chicken is insanely durable.
My 2nd choice would be probably Heavy Metal as a LL / gauss for CW.

I just bought the Misery and am a bit underwhelmed. I haven't finished mastering it yet, so maybe that will help. It's not bad, and some of the other "Hero" mechs certainly are flat out bad. But it's not amazing either.

My advice to you would be to spend your MC on premium time rather than on any of the Heroes. That way any mech you play gets the bonus Cbills AND bonus XP and GXP to level up fast.

I love the king crab too, and would buy a Hero of that chassis in a second. The Misery is in my opinion significantly less tanky than the king crab, and the single ballistic port plus low engine cap, both hold it back somewhat.

Your other option is to buy the Dire Wolf pack "a la carte". It's a bit more expensive in real money, but you get 3 of them, and the Prime variant will have the permanent 30% cbill bonus. Dire Wolves have awesome firepower, but appallingly bad torso twist and are the slowest mech in the game. I could just about tolerate the speed before the December nerf to speed tweak, now for me at least, they're just TOO slow. But give the trial one a go, when you get your positioning right, they are incredibly satisfying.

I'd second Misery. Stalkers may look silly to you, but if they kill what they look at the target is still dead. That ballistic hardpoint comes with a Gauss as standard so you can fit an AC/20 for some short-range punch instead. My Misery actually is a short-range brawler with a single LRM rack to annoy people at range. Once they run up to you to take payment for the insult you hit them with an AC/20 slug and five pulse lasers.

I do not own any hero assaults, but from what I can say:
  • Do NOT take the Boar's Head
  • Do NOT take La Malinche (Banshee Hero)

Ok so I ended up going with the Misery anyways even tho it kinda looks like a walking blimp.

Now can you guy point me towards some Solo Que builds for this thing?

http://metamechs.com...guides/stalker/

check the section on the misery.

Personally I prefer std300, 3 large pulse, and an AC10 (AC20 is just too hot and short ranged).

I own this heroes mech, just my 2-cents for helping you choosing :
(Don't look armor location, i've made the builds i use very quickly on smurfy)

- Pretty Baby.
It is not competitive, don't take it.
Nobody love it, but it is the one i always **** anyone with it. It's a badass brawler in my case, with a WTF effect when i take it in my team ;) Ho and XL400 = 87.1 kph, wich is AWESOME !

- Dragon Slayer.
It's not competitive nowadays, but it's a very powerfull platform. I play it like a long-medium range harasser. It's deadly in my h and on community warfare.

- Hellslinger :
This one is something to consider. It's a very powerfull laserboat. The -2C variant is better i think, but you don't have the Heroe bonus. I use it like a wubmaster, but i don't remember my exact build, it's something like this or maybe with a XL400 :

- Heavy Metal :
That is a god damned great chassis. A lot of potential, even if today it is more rare. I use the standard build with 2xAC/5 and 3xLL, but you can do several powerfull build on this big boy. And always paint it in pink ! \m/

If you want something competitive : Don't take the Pretty Baby, the La Malinche or the Boars Head. They are all cool but not competitive.

You should really consider the Hellslinger, the Heavy Metal and the Misery. I don't have the Misery, but it's a really badass and durable battlemech. Fear on the battlefield for good reasons.
The double PPC + AC/20 is a fun assymetrical and pin point build on the misery.

See you on batlefield, mechwarriors ;)

If you are considering a Hellslinger i would look at a Top Dog (thunderbolt hero). Thunderbolts tank very well and the Top Dog has 9 energy hardpoints (most in the torsos) I been running mine with 6 mlas and 2lpulses (1pulse and 3meds in each of 2 weapon groups) they sit in the torso so i can use the arms as shields and roll damage everywhere on that mech. Use a standard engine and it is pretty durable while still putting out some laser vomit.
