I always wanted an Orion. I really like the versatility and the mix of firepower, armor and speed. So I bought one and tried to build some kind of agile brawler. It has some nice alpha damage paired with almost 80kph speed.

The thoughts behind that build:
1.) I went for the XL-360 because I really like mobility. This is just my kind of playstyle. Get in fast to be in range, get out fast when it gets too hot. Protect yourself with torso twisting and the use of cover and your team mates.
2.) This guy needs something to open the center torso. Here the focused fire of the Medium Pulse Lasers and the AC10 come in handy. The AC10 also has some decent range so you can fire while aproaching.
3.) Enemy got open torso? Rock that SRMs!

This was my second run with the Orion
(I ran out on SRM ammo too fast. Will change that in an updated build.)

Not really sure which I should buy next to master them. As I said, I enjoy moving around a lot and shooting from medium to close range. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

This, so much. I Pilot the ON1-K and K(C), ON1-V, and ON1-VA on a regular basis. Built and piloted right, they are deadly. You can brawl with the best of them. But you can also sit back and be second line fire support. Play to it's strengths, and with your team.
They require some love in the Mechlab, money and time. Unfortunately, Orion really shines once mastered, but getting there is not as bad as you would think. Especially if you have the right build. I use some rather dated builds on my 4 Orions, but the mini-Atlas is tried and true. STD 300 is what I go with on all my variants due having Speed Tweak. You're not going 80, but you don't need to. It caps out at just under 70 (69.6) which is fine in most scenarios.

Medium Lasers x 4, AC/20 and SRM 4 x 2, is going to get you going on the ON1-K

As for that ON1-VA you linked, that's not terrible and not far off from one I use on that variant. I forego the AC/10 and the MPL for LPLs in the arms. Heat management is rather easy as long as you don't over do it, but you shouldn't be gunning as hard as you can, you're a precision second line fire support Mech that can brawl if necessary. The main drawback to my build is the weapons are only in both arms, but for me personally, in a VA I'm not brawling, I'm protecting the Assaults and other heavies around me. SRMs for the silly lights that get too close to me and LPLs for precision removal Limbs and Cockpit shots when I'm engaged up close. (You'd be surprised how often dragging two arm mounted LPLs across someone's torso will result in an epic headshot.) The simple task of grouping your weapons to left arm and right arms fire groups, you can protect your limbs solely by playing the way the build is designed. Peak from corners or just behind the assaults you're guarding. If you have to brawl, and inevitably you will, people will generally focus on your torsos when you're in their face. I'm talking get up close and literally kiss them goodbye. They can't shoot your arms If you're giving them a bear hug with SRMs and LPLs.

In CW I always have at least one Orion in my drop deck, and will never go without one. Best advice in this long-winded post is to spend the money and time on more than one variant, if anything just to get the skills unlocked through Elite. It's a very rewarding Mech once you learn it.
