I notice that there are a lot of merc corps and they even have their own recruitment subforum. I would rather play on a faction. Where can you find faction specific groups who are recruiting?

Should be faction specific forums as well for recruiting look there in.

Viper is right, but the house forums are not as tidy as the merc recruitment forums. Outfits looking for players will have their post mixed in with chit-chat and other topics, so you have to look a bit harder.

Yea, I've checked out the faction sub forums. Hard to find any units that exist! 
And most of them are merc units that will be affiliated with a faction.

Also be aware that many merc units are going to be faction specific, despite merc status.
The merc unit organization (we are assuming) will give unit leaders greater control over their unit within the eventual meta game compared to faction units.
