Uh, no. "restored" assumes that it's gone instead of on hold - which hasn't been demonstrated. The act of reworking a map inherently means putting the modernized version back into circulation, and they have not announced the cancellation of that effort. So that's not speculation - the cancellation is.

Alpine Peaks is a great map. The only problem I have with it is the players who always choose Skirmish so everyone winds up just fighting on Pug Mountain when Assault and Conquest are much better for this map. Just make a few changes to make it more fair as some people have mentioned already and leave it in rotation.

Also, great map for LRMs.

Without debating the merits of alpine, we have map voting now. More choice is better. Let us choose if we want to see it ever again.

Or just turn it into a CW map, since it's much more appropriate for an game mode where one side attacks and the other defends. But as a standard PUG queue map it is not appropriate.

I like Alpine, but I voted No. If they tweak it as you suggest, thats cool, but they would still need to the do "destructible terrain" pass and beautification pass to have it match and up to snuff along with all the new maps or those revamped ones. That means time and resources, which I would rather have used to update one of the older Maps like Terra Therma. And then we would also have two very similar, large Arctic Mountainous maps.

Now if you were to say "Save Alpine" by allowing us to choose it for Private matches, then I would be OK with that. Just dont devote time and resources to something that will be repetitive and outdated.

Just my two cents.

I wished all maps, even those removed from rotation, could be used in Private matches.... That would be very nice.

Alpine is one of the few Mechwarrior-esque maps in the game. Really just needs some adjustments like different (random) drop points and cap/base points for the most part.

Could tunnel out the mountain to make a HPG-like theta zone and increase the size of the playable field without increasing the size of the map. Add mountains or a wall to the back side of the top of the mountain so if you set up there retreat isn't a viable option - and effectively guarding the back base/cap points isn't either.

Little more hill or clutter cover down past the ramp so the team from that side can't easily be spotted without actual scouting to determine which direction they are moving.

Make holding the mountain become a huge risk for loss, and utilize the rest of that map which is quite nicely laid out.

I would like Alpine kept, but as a low odds map for regular rotation, put it as an option for private matches, or just move the spawn locations so that both teams have the same change to reach the big hill, possibly even make it so that you cannot scale that hill from the cliff side, removing the advantage of one team easily being able to claim that high ground

It plays very well in conquest, brawling in the area of the caps makes for decent matches. Maybe just cut off everything beyond the 8 line. That being said I would rather see it stay in the rotation than getting dumped altogether. A remake seems unlikely since the trial to do so led to a new map.

A huge map which favors long range sniping should help keep the loadouts more balanced, just as a map with closed confines (low ceiling, like a hangar) would help to prevent lrm boating. Overall I would like to see more wide open maps like MW:LLs "Clearcut" which is very pretty and gives room for different tactical approaches.

I like it as it is.

People who think that if they control the hill they win are wrong. I've seen those on the hill wiped out many times.

We need a wide open map to counteract the crowded maps.

I've never understood why people love Alpine so much. It's a bland, near-featureless map with no real character and it encourages the exact same game every time you get it. There is literally one strategy with a couple of variations for playing Alpine.

Half the time when I get it I secretly hope I die early so I don't have to spend 15 minutes waddling around in a barren white field to get to the interesting part.

Just experiment more with the spawnpoints like we had in the past and alpine will be a good map 4 sure, there is so0 much space...

I suspect that if the back side of the mountain was not climbable, that the new "stale" game play would be one team takes the other hill (h10 I think?) and shoot across the valley between the hills. Then the other team would still charge up the gentle slop of the hill, and just shoot across the gap.

Sad part is, the other hill is actually better fortified than the main mountain everyone charges on...

We did this the other day. Without doubt it is the winning position from that spawn point.

My opinion on maps?

MWO shouldn't take a single map away until they have somewhere north of 20. It's a bit boring looking, but it's a fun map.

Well said. The biggest problem I have with this game right now is map boredom. I'd love to see old River City and Forest Colony maps back in the game too.
