Hey guys, I I have been playing this game for quite a while now, but never really got used to using lasers. I love my Jager with UAC5s, my Shawk with AC5s/2s, and my centurion with an AC10 and some streaks. I feel like I ought to branch out and try a good laser mech - what would you advise? Preferably I want something cheap incase I decide to sell it again (i probably will). I'm tempted to take the hunchback with massive laser hunch because I always had a soft spot for the little hunchey. Is that still a viable build? Cheers

Um, don't take this wrong, but how on earth have you played since 2013 and not been playing mostly laser builds? I mean its sort of the default ya know?
Anyway, there are a LOT of choices. For laser dominant IS mechs on the cheap... If you want to stick with mediums get a Black Jack mastery pack or the contents thereof. The 1X is the predominant ML boat even after the latest quirk pass. On most chassis (I would not advise a laser build on the 3 as you want to take advantage of the PPC velocity quirk there) you can mix LPLs or LL with smaller lasers for some fun mixed range builds. The arrow and the 1 let you add some ballistics if desired.
Cicadas can carry 4-6 lasers.
The Crabs are not so cheap but are pure laser builds. My favorite. I run 1 with 3LPL and an XL 275, 1 as a ML boat, the jj variant with all MPL and the biggest XL I could fit, 1 with 2 ERL and 4spl. Etc.
Lots of choices. In heavies, dang near everything can run lasers effectively. Even the CTF can boat 3LPL with a std 300; but as far as "cheap" I would probably go with the Quickdraw 4g or 5k. The 4g with an XL with 4LL and the biggest XL you can fit is a great ride (not so cheap when engine factors in). You can build just about anything with the 5k's mix of 4 high torso hard points and 2 in the arm.

I was the same way. Because of my low FPS keeping lasers on target is difficult so I preferred AC's and missiles.
The Crab made me fall in love with laser builds. I run all STD engines because it makes them extra tanky and zombie really well.

Hunchie is currently a great laser build. Also the BJ is nice too.

I've been having fun with a CMPulse Ebon Jag. I have 7 c-mpulse lasers. Mechlab isn't coming up atm though so I can't link it. I filled the armor slots and then the rest of the weight is double sinks. I can full alpha and run to around 60% heat on warm maps. On cool maps, I can get off 2 alphas in a row (waiting on cooldowns) without shut down and only on basic level mech tree so far. When I don't alpha, I can keep up fire pretty consistently.
