Considering either a Mauler or King Crab with dakka & lasers.
Anyone play both and have a preference? Does one have the edge over the other?

Crab has more upper body armor, can carry a bit more firepower.
Mauler seems more fluid and easier to maneuver when most needed...

Would appreciate a bit of advice on builds as well...Thanks

King crab can do arm mounted AC/20's, but its low slung, Mauler can do a build with half a dozen AC/5's if thats your thing... but the Mauler is better at long range AC2 peppering, since they are mounted high. the King crab has 10 tons on the Mauler as well, so that factors in.. personally, I'd take MIsery over both of them.

I have the King Crabs all mastered and love them, I also have a mastered Misery. I definitely prefer the Crab to the Misery.

The lower mounted arm cannons can be an issue on the Crab however, but you can usually work around it. The heat on the Misery is a bigger issue for me. I generally go with either 3xLarge Pulse and an AC20, or 3xLarge Pulse and an AC10 or UAC5. I just don't like PPC's.

They're both great mechs, but for me the sustained firepower of the Crab is much more satisfactory. It seems much tougher to me too. I last way longer in an XL360 Crab than I do in a Standard300 Misery.

I've tried XL360 vs Standard 325 (both with UAC5x4) and I find the extra speed and manouverability definitely worthwhile, since you're face tanking to spam your UACs anyway, I almost never die to side torso loss.

I don't have a Mauler, I've been saving up for one, but got sidetracked into mastering Blackjacks first... Mauler's or Marauder's are next for me.

Mastered Crabs, working on Maulers.

Crabs are the more maneuverable by far. Chassis quirks make them turn like mediums. They don't look it because of how much x & y space they take up, but I'd definitely start there.

Note: The King Crabs smidge of extra torso armor doesn't quite make up for it's "Lurm dish" shape. But I'd still master those before the Maulers, although the Mauler is turning out to be a great mech.

I haven't dipped into the King Crabs yet, but I've recently finished up my Maulers, and I really enjoyed using them. I didn't run meta builds, but in spite of their slow speed, they don't feel as painful to use as, say, an Atlas or Highlander. Like the Awesomes, I just had a great time running them... well, all but one.

My Mauler 1R and Daboku didn't really need altogether much to get them working nicely. I just stripped out one of the AC2s on each in order to either add ammo, armor, heatsinks, or a combination thereof. That made them great machines nearly straight out of the box. The 2P treated me nicely, as I used my underutilized dual LBX-10s instead of smaller ACs, a sextuplet of small lasers, and a brace of SRM6es... It made a surprisingly effective brawler. My 1P didn't treat me as nicely. The 4XPPC, 4XMG, 2XSRM6 wasn't easy to get a hang of, but save for copy-pasting some other guy's meta build, that was the best use I could come up with for the presented quirks. When it was successful, it cleaned house. When I got flanked, I was chewed to scrapola.

But from my perspective, I chose mechs based on what I know my faction makes/uses in the lore, not because I'm chasing the meta.
