I'm not a new player but someone can confirm something for the newer players, I hope. This has me stumped, because I don't play a bunch and cannot find info on the forums.

You need three different chassis of the same Mech type fleshed out full on Basic skills before you can move on to Elite skills.

You need three different chassis of the same Mech type fleshed out full on Elite skills before you can move on to Mastery and the Mech/Weapon module slot.

If you have done three different chassis of the same Mech type up to and including Elite skills, in one, two, three or all four of Light, Medium, Heavy and Assault, you can stop at Basic for future chassis of that type and can skip over the three different chassis to the same Mech type fleshed out full on Elite skills before you can move on to Mastery and the Mech/Weapon module slot.

The stats do not update on the Mechs as you get the 2x Basic efficiencies bonus, nor do they update on your Mech chassis in the Mech Lab for things like heat efficiency or Mech speed.

For example, say you have three Enforcers in your Mech hangar. All three Enforcers have unlocked the Elite skills level, which also unlocks future Medium Mechs for the 2x Elite efficiency bonus upon completion of that tier. If you were to purchase three new Hunchbacks, also Medium Mechs, you would only need to take the three Hunchbacks to fully fleshed out Basic skills before choosing one to take all the way to Mastery, skipping the Elite tier for the other two Mechs.

Please chime in if I have messed this info up, but it is correct to the best of my knowledge.

I think you got it right or near abouts.
You have to unlock the basics for 3 mechs before you can elite them. And if you've mastered? enough mech in a weight class you can elite and master any mech you have done the basics for.

I have a question about Master.

Can you unlock several module slots for one mech ?

How much XP do you need to complete Master ?

no, just the one slot per Mech,

unlocking the master slot costs 21,500 XL, however you need to have unlocked basic and elite on that Mech first, to unlock all Mech skills on a single varitent (note this does not include the other Mechs needed to unlock the higher skill levels) will cost 57250xp (assuming I have not miscalsulated)
total XP required including completing the basics and elites for 3 variants is 128750xp

Master gives you one module slot only. It's 21,500 xp to unlock the master, but you have to get there through basic and elite skills.

The nice thing about the module slot is that you can equip either a mech module or a weapon module in that slot.

Thanks gang. Did PGI post this info anywhere, or was this data-mined by the community? I more or less figured it out on my own through experimentation, but still was a little worried, as the stats don't upgrade in the game. Your only indication is the '2x efficiencies unlocked' notification in the pilot skill tab, so it seemed unintuitive to a small degree.

Edit:

The middle one is actually a Grid Iron, but let's pretend it's a 4G for this case :P

It probably was posted by PGI long ago, but it used to be displayed in the Mech skills section of the skills lab, I have not noticed it there in years but that could just be because I am not looking for it.

I don't like how that system works.....its more about getting cbills to buy mechs rather than fighting with them. With all my Mechs I was able to get master skill as soon as I bought the third variant and unlocked all basics. For IS mech....you also have different playstyles with different variants, but with clan mechs it's more or less the same with any variant because of omnipods. For me it's more about spending cbills to unlock elite and master skill....rather disappointing.

I now only use omnipods from variants I have already bought, so when I buy new variants I may use their omnipods, keeps things more interesting. Also a suggestion to the devs: make variant omnipods only available when you actually own(/owned) the appropriate variant.
