Here's the think about my Bane, I take fall damage, a LOT. I need to be able to get away from my enemies as quickly as possible, and to do so, sometimes I have to take a leap off a cliff. That doesn't always end well as I'm sure you can imagine.
I noticed the Spiders have jump jets which would mitigate that problem, but I'm having a problem finding one with good hard points. My Bane has 4! medium lasers. I generally do ~400 dmg with it every round. Do far, I haven't seen anything on the Spider that can match that.
Anyone have any suggestions?

There is a module called "Shock absorbance", it greatly reduce fall damage. Buy it, and install it on your Locust. It might be expensive, but it's mandatory for all light mechs without jets.
edit : to buy a module you first must unlock it with GXP in the "pilot tree". Then you can buy it in the mechlab like any other weapon or equipment.
Modules are expensive, at first only buy one of each and share them between all you mechs.
About mech choice, my suggestion would be: don't buy Spiders. Anyway, they is no spider with more than 3 laser hardpoints (on the 5D variant).
Did you try the Jenners? It's slower but kind of close to the classic medium lasers Pirate Bane build (without ECM, but more hardpoints) with jump jets. There is a trial mech, iirc.
And continue the Locusts, buy the 1E variant. With 6 SPLas this mech is a beast.

Headless,
I love the locust. I have them all mastered. I have never put on shock absorbance on any of them. That is a waste. You have to take cliffs at an angle. You will be surprised how far you can fall. if you have to jump then you have to jump. As far as spiders, they rock. You can get 1Er Laser and 2mediums w/ ECM on 5D or my favorite is the Anansi. You can run 2 med lasers SRM 6 2 MGs with 3 jj or 2 med pulse SRM 6 3jj, or 2med lasers SRM 6 5 JJ.
Today in pub que I had 4 kills 6 assists 529 damage in a Anansi (hero spider). Anyway Bane is my favorite, 1E is ridiculous with 6 smpulse. 1 M is actually good if you like missiles.
Remember take cliffs at angle. You will not take any damage if you do it right. Good luck!!!!!!

Just a question: how do you drop from the Crimson Strait platform at an angle? Or from HPG's?
How do you come down a cliff at the right angle when you're running at full speed because you're chased by a streakcrow?
There are situations when you need to jump. And you need to jump fast, without asking questions, without the need to jump the proper way so you don't damage your legs. Shock Absorbance allows you these moves that otherwise would be crippling. That is actually one of the few modules that widens your possibilities of actions.
Saying it's a waste is like saying armor is a waste. Sure, I've run mechs without armor. I even wrecked enemy mechs with them. It does not mean it does not provide an undeniable advantage.

Okay,
Epkit I would rather use radar dep or seismic or target info instead of shock absorbance. I have ran off both of the objects you have mentioned and took damage. It isn' t that much. I diffently would not call it mandatory. Of course, I finally put hill climb on a locust and said wow......So I guess I will try it.
