Something I've seen come up a few times on the game's Steam forum is people not knowing how to buy battlemechs with C-Bills. Either they don't notice the store button or assume that, like a lot of other games with microtransactions (either F2P or otherwise), that the button's for a cash store, rather than a store for both free and paid content.

Not sure how it could be changed; maybe go for a full-on in-game encyclopedia like what's in Shogun 2. Give it a section for tutorials, one of which shows how to buy your own battlemech. Maybe even a pop-up notification that appears once someone's gotten the whole of their Cadet Bonus saying that they can put their now-substantial supply of C-Bills into a 'mech of their own via the Store button - just something to draw attention to it and make it clear to a new player that that button is how you buy new 'mechs.
