procedurally generated planets, class, weather, time of day, elemental factors, hazards.
This is a big challenge for programmers but this is the ideal game for it.
Especially for solar system battles on planets, each one would have a "seed" number so the planet gets randomly made but made the same each time. Each planet could even have a few predefined bits like it's planet class (M)( etc) even a few special unique structures or premades that make the planet unique if thats required.
2) PVE for planet based combat., AI controlled units
Everyone loves pvp it's the core of the game but getting together with friends to take on AI attack waves or missions/exploration can be good fun too.
Can even have FILL-IN Ai assistants for missions that cant get enough players..
Or even special game modes with X players and X Ai players for some really big battles.
Another challenge for programmers... but hey I was a programmer this is the sort of difficult, challenging but very rewarding use of our craft.
