If you want to discuss the color of white/salt, please go to the other threads Posted Image

I look for a reason to reinstall/redownload the game with steam. Steam will have achievements but looking at the FAQ these will likely be the exact ones we have ingame already so nothing new here.

And no trading cards (yet?) which would indeed be a reason to do it, just for some mech icons in the profile.

But beyond that, is there any reason for us longtime mwo players to move over? I know there will be exclusive steam sales but I doubt we won't get those normally anymore.

And all my friend on steam stopped playing mwo long time ago, so nothing for me here, either Posted Image

So will you reinstall through steam? Why, or why not?

At least, it seems that we can run two installations with the same configs/sttings so it would only take some more hard disk space...

You can get folks to gift you MC packs and the Performance Packs.
You can get the Steam Performance Packs (whatever they are).
You can show off your stats to your non-MWO friends
erm....
You can have everything under one link on your desktop?
err.....
dunno

I heard there are Steam achievements for MWO, dunno if they are the same as in game achievements.

Any benefit for already established players to play the game through Steam you mean?

Pretty much nothing as far as I can tell, which is fine because things like trading cards and achievements are pointless.

I will, because I already added MWO to steam as non steam game. Which I did to say in contact with my steamfriends via the ingame overlay. It allows you to stay in contact and chat with the across all steam games. Not only when they are online in the same game as you. Especially since it does not require alt tabbig to desktop and using another messenger program.

Steam is not just a different way to start MWO or buy stuff for MWO. It is a giant socialising platform as well. You cans store screens in the cloud, The community hub makes you track game related community members activities. Example of APB reloaded Their screens, vids artworks, and discussions.
You can also see activities of your friends in this way.
You can create groups which allows you to discuss stuff there as well as much as setting up announcements and events for this group

For MWO itself, well I don't know if the regional Steam prices will affect stuff may be for some it gets more expensive, and for others less. That may depending on region you live. I also can think of special steam only packs being done in future, they may be a reason to use steam, (even if not initially).

Like many others I may get it set up on Steam but wont play it through Steam. I have 0 extra programs running when playing games. Maybe some music sometimes only.

Most players like to keep their system and bandwidth clear.

yes especially for poeple on the lower performance end using steam may drop their fps more. Some people may be affected by this negatively.

I see absolutely no reason to use Steam at all (no only in this case but that is personal preference).

Since Valve has yet to learn how to do achievements right (hello, Microsoft, and to a certain degree to you too, Sony), there is not even something to increase your e-peen. Talking about features which aren't even implemented (yet?), like cards, is stupid.

Cons...

If you are using steam family sharing, your steam account will get locked while you play a game that you dont need steam for anyway..

I like Steam. I have a lot of games on Steam, but I see no reason to reinstall the game on Steam. I have the regular launcher that does just fine, why would I want to go through the trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling through Steam *shrug*.

The only way to do achievements right is not at all. Achievements and grindy XP-like systems have turned the last couple of generations of gamers into mindless sheep who do not even know why they play a game any more. And the publishers have reacted to that and started to release only crap games that the masses still happily consumed even if these games had no real content besides completing achievements and filling out XP bars and that were not even really fun.

100 % true. IF you are doing cheevos though, don't do it half-assed like Valve.

I really like the Steam overlay Shift+Tab.
Might do it just for the convenience as %90 of my other games are already in Steam

I might move the game to Steam if/when I re-install the OS or get another computer (if I'm still playing MWO at that time). As for going out of my way to do it, nah, for me it is fine as a separate installer.

well, it depends if you use Steams other features (overlay, streaming from a gaming machine to a set top box, friends, sharing, etc etc).

For example, I'll be using it so I can play MWO with maxed settings at 60 fps on my Linux 2.0ghz dual core celeron HTPC with integrated graphics.

Well, that's a bummer, hadn't thought on that.

Maybe they don't add anything steamy into their game like Kerbal space program, so you can start the game without steam at all (from the steam install, not a standalone). I use familiy sharing alot, and this is always annoying...

Looks like there might be some benefits for international users:

Steam Performance Packs will be priced using a Steam-recommended regional pricing structure.

So some of the content will be priced in local currencies when purchased through Steam.
