This is a minor quibble to be sure but still an interesting one. Why is it we can hear the footsteps of battlemechs nearby (if yer not moving/relatively quiet) but if you run into a building/mountain) at 140 kph you hear .... nothing? zilch, nada, bupkis.

I would think it would merit SOME sound, if not a soul-grinding metal-shrieking CRUNNNNCH.

It would certainly help with immersion a bit (and just be plain fun). Wouldn't imagine it would be hard to implement.

The immersion would immediately be broken as you stomp away having suffered no consequences for smashing multiple tons of war machine into a mountain at such speeds. Still, some audible indication that you are scraping/running into a building/mountain would be nice.

Umm, a few patches ago they changed it so there is a loud clang whenever you run into a building or something solid. I personally hate it.

I think their sound system is pretty basic at best. I mean, they have individual sounds that just repeat over and over--take the dropships, for instance. You can hear them loop. They aren't even doing any fancy processing with the sound.

If you want to experience what superb sound design can bring, play some Elite Dangerous.

Really? My hearing must be worse than I thought. That, or it just doesn't stand out enough over the rest of the battle sounds.

Yeah, if you are scraping a building or something you hear CLANG CLANG CLANG.

I'm kind of surprised you can hear anything outside your battlemech. With something designed to withstand the vacuum of space, drastic heat and cold, severe gravity and atmospheric pressure, etc... You would think there would be a rather big buffer between you and the outside world. You would hear your machine only and little else from the world around you (kind of like HPG Manifold all the time).

I guess you would still possibly hear footsteps as vibration from enemy mechs transfers through the ground into your mech through the legs. Then again.....

Wait this is all science fiction fantasy. Short answer, just because :).

Wait, what were we talking about again?

Why wouldn't the mech have microphones outside to transmit ambient noise into the cockpit or directly through the neurohelmet? I would think that would offer valuable intelligence since you could hear enemy fire and determine the direction of attack.

The sounds in this game are abysmal.

Wretchedly horrid and bland.

It's the blandest sounding shooter I've ever played. Which is precisely why I simply play music while playing MWO.

Tis a real shame, the sounds could be magnificent but they're severely lacking talent in that department.

Sure! Sounds good to me.
