As a MW fan boy with deep pockets who found out that we weren't the target audience......I'd say extremely easy.
Many FB's have settled for this is the only BT game option or have left for the new kick-starter or other games. The price is simply too high. Once players start to regret buying a mech on looks alone and learning the truth. It's going to cause some bad blood.

as a Btech fanboy with deep pockets who found out they weren't the target audience (2 years ago), I've seen PGI do just about a complete 180 since then in where and how they are developing MWO.

Once players who keep sticking with the past realize that new players don't carry that baggage and could care less what happened with the game 2 years before they even started playing it, they'll realize that their proclamations of doom (no matter how thinly veiled) are just as silly as all the other "MWO will die because of (insert latest bandwagon here)" statements ;)

It's still my favorite game, and I hope it's doing as well as they say. I can't say I trust PGI one bit though. Only time will tell if they will actually provide something besides death match or keep polishing little things just enough to keep us on the hook.

My number one choice in games is MWO. I hope they are doing well. I know I will always open my wallet for this game. Could care less about anything else.

That kind of feedback has actually been instrumental in heading off really bad ideas a few times.

no
really it hasn't
It's done nothing but create misinformation, confuse new players, show that some people have some severe obsession issues, and spam the forums with nonsensical rhetoric that detracts from the constructive discussions.

What exactly are you even saying? You seem to be implying that the voice of the players doesn't matter and shouldn't be heard because why? Are the forums best locked in your world? Who exactly decides what opinions matter there?

No, my time spent "Searching" for a match has plummeted. I am super happy with he new voting system, because I would toss any game aside if I had to search for more than 2 minutes per match all the time. I search for a few seconds, now.

Seriously, my Searching routine went from "Click Search, fetch beer, reload glassware, return to chair, wait for match" to "Click search, think about a beer, too late for beer; voting just started."

I'm not finding games any faster than I was before, or it is such a small improvement that it hardly matters, and it is certainly not worth the loss of choice in game mode selection. Yet, somehow I'm supposed to be ok with spending 8+ min playing a game mode that I despise just so you can find a match slightly faster than before? We have more players now according to Russ so even if we went back to the old system you will be finding games faster than before anyway so what is the harm?

Yeah... I'm sure that's due to the game mode vote and not the Steam release, which happened at the same time. *facepalm*

You need to relocate the beer cooler. Get your priorities straight, man!

That's nice.

I 'd sure like to see some real numbers, as having them hidden just asks for suspicion and doubt to occur.

This chart;

http://steamcharts.com/app/342200#3m

Shows a 13% increase over the past 30 days. That's essentially since the game launched on STEAM. I still think it's too early to be making claims of success or failure of the STEAM launch at this point.

I also don't know how good or bad a 13% increase is one month into it. In my business, a 13% increase over the year is not too shabby, but over a month, that's just random noise and variation and it's subject to change. The next month I could be down just as much.

Also, how much of that 13% is from the initial STEAM bump? Is it going to be long-term? How much comes from various specials or events or incentives like the current 1 week premium time that Russ mentions in his tweet?

One thing I do find curious is the lack of "follow up" in the STEAM launch. I don't know about you but I haven't seen it pop up once on the "featured games" window since shortly after launch. Is this something they have to pay for? If so, why haven't they bucked up a bit to keep the momentum going? Maybe it's out of their hands? I don't know, but I'd like to know more about how that functions.

So many variables that can't be properly interpreted this early in so I'd say that while it sounds OK, it's too early to crow about.

Talk to me in 6 months

This is great news!
Steam numbers seem really stable so far, and the new steam users i've spoken to through steam for most part are really enjoying the game.
Whats encouraging is, those i've spoken to who were struggling getting to grips with the game, are still having fun!.

eh, the grind here is nothing compared to pretty much every other f2p title on the market

Not sure if i'm willing to agree here.

New player here, and i'm already feeling like i'm hitting a brickwall (I need another 17mcbils or so to even elite my main build)
But i'm also coming from PoE / d2 iE RPG-loot hunters - market or how i should say it. The grind is real, but usualy awards you for playing alot or just straight out rng. But in this game, it's just pure grind.

I realy enjoy this game, but the grind is already getting to me, going for 30-40 matches daily and losing probably 50/50 (according to my statics) And i feel no real progression, i'm feeling more like... well can i bother doing another match for tonight or no?

Maybe all this will change if i find a good clan/unit home to realy engage more.
But doing quickplays - especially as a new player i feel the grind is realy rough, because i realy want to unlock that elite tier. Not to mention master.

All in all i realy enjoy this game alot! But i feel slightly that it's that not rewarding, what i mean is it's lacking that carrot on a stick, so to say.

All this might ease up with a nice group though, but so far i'm in the QP group and learning my ins and out. (Well apart from forums/youtube etc)

Edit2:

Few screenshots i've taken, on average they turn on like this win or not. So the grind is real.. i'd say anyway. :P

Marvel Heroes runs a similar pricing system. Plus a more expensive camo/skin system (but once you've bought/won the skins you own them unless you sell/trade them).

F2P grind to unlock heroes (mechs) is roughly 7 minutes X 200-600 points.

Free skins is roughly a 1 in 1000 shot from the daily 2 you can earn you get, and only for the original set of heroes.

I can't be bothered to do the math, but I can tell you that it takes waaaaaaaaaaaaay longer to earn a $15 hero there than a $15 mech here.

Sometimes a break, short or long, is required to get continued enjoyment from any game or pass time.

I agree and submit the price for content is a bit too high and may easily intersect with buyers remorse due to inexperience is a reasonable assessment of the current game for a new player.
