Its a lot easier to see the maps that people hate. I mean a lot easier.

I've hated the redone forest colony and that map has become exceedingly rare for me, I see Terra Therma more often than forest colony. I've always liked Canyon Network and Crimson Straights, and both maps come up a lot more.

I hope the devs are noting the votes and adjusting their map design decisions based on the data they now have.

It's not a perfect indicator, because a large portion of the votes for maps like Mordor come from people with high vote weights who enjoy the pain of other people.

My thoughts exactly.

I'm not holding my breath, tbh. The criticism players made about maps has been so crystal clear since the earliest days. I haven't really seen PGI address the issues raised.

On a positive not Polar Highlands sounds like it's potentially going to be the map I've been asking for since forever. Inspired by old MW2 games, fairly flat. Not a lot of hills or mountains. Trenches that provide predictable cover (as opposed to crystal formations with weird hitboxes)

I'm not sure that PGI made Polar Highlands based on feedback from players from myself. It remains to be seen if they're actually taking things in a better direction from now on. As far as I can tell, River City 2, Forest Colony 2 and Caustic Valley 2 were all fairly big failures, in terms of making bigger maps that provided more variation. Caustic Valley 2 is basically the same as the original, River City 2 rarely sees any fighting at all outside the perimeters of River City 1. Forest Colony 2 has some good areas, but 75% of the map is basically never used at all, except as scenery to look at while you walk to the same old positions. If that.

With Paul's spreadsheet skills, I'm sure they're able to count votes instead of what maps get picked based on modifiers.

The fact that Terra is voted more than forest is only a statement from the players that they would rather troll their peers when the opportunity arise than use the voting system as it was intended. Forest is fun when your team isnt the brainwashed "go g9 or im gona have a hissyfit in chat and blame everyone else is we dont win"

With all the new players from steam im pretty sure Forest will be voted often. I personally would have preferred that more small mech sized trees would have been used to impare vision rather than fog because we already got enough particle in other map already. I can't imagine soldiers asking about the weather before attacking or defending somewhere, bad weather is even a good thing when it's part of the plan.

-evil laughter- I enjoy the drinking the tears of laserboats who don't know how to manage their heat!

But yeah. In all seriousness, people who know how to harvest vote weights generally skew the results. I voted only Terra Therma for an experiment for a whole week, and came to the conclusion that it's still hated more than Forest Colony. It usually takes a x9 to x12 vote to actually get on it, as opposed to x4 or x5 for FC.

I'd take Terra over Forest Colony any day of the week. Good central location with multiple entry points. Less than a minute and you can get action. Meanwhile on forest, its a 2 1/2 minute walk to the fight and you have to pay attention to terrain and turn all the time. Forest has a lot of lower lying cover that prevents your low slung arm weapons from firing as well.

In a group i wouldnt mind Terra because i expect things from the group. In solo ill take forest over Terra.

The mini-game!

I'm currently sitting on a x10 multiplier. Sometimes I stick it on Terra Therma to scare people only to revoke my vote right before the game starts if Terra Therma is in the lead. Trying to get it up to x12.

Some people just have no appreciation for true gloom. Posted Image

I'll admit to voting for it whenever I can. Except when I play Stock. No Mordor with stock mechs. Too painfull.Posted Image

I need something to counterbalance the pain I feel every time I have to drop on Alpine.

Yea i'm a so called new steamer, Posted Image

River city (Huge margin) / viridan bog / forest colony, is the top 3 in my statics atm. 4th comes the horrible terra therma, god i hate that map. (Sorry but i just do, heat and just plain bad layout. Might be abit biased cuz i've only 2 wins out of all those terras... ugh.)

I personally like snow/alpine/viridan the most! Posted Image

Edit: One thing i would love is having a "random" vote if you don't wish to vote, with a multiplier of 3 or 4x.
And the players cannot see that until all the votings are done (Ie when game is about to start)
Because i hate to see my vote reach 0% when Rivercity hits 40% and terra 38% and so on..)

Same goes for game mode, it can be 90% Assult - suddenly the game decides we wanted skirmish...

I love voting assault when Terrible Therma looks like its happening, and when it does, and if I get my way, I just tell the team im going to go cap and they can get on with it, and then laugh at all the qq when the map finishes early.

I would be interested to see the stats on how often a map gets voted for. If there is a large disparity, then PGI could use that to decide which maps get the next updates.

Lol you just listed the exact reasons I prefer Forest Colony over Terra Therma. Having to pay attention to cover and look around is a good thing imo. The matches on Terra feel like they end the same way. It's not bad on conquest, but terrible on skirmish. To each their own, I guess.
