I remember trying to run DX11 when it first came out, and I remember DX11 crashing out a lot of systems, mine included. I immediately ditched it and stayed with DX9.

Last night on a whim I gave it another shot and had some epicly long loading screens with some crazy FPS swings while in game, and then it would lockup returning to mechlab.

So is there something I'm doing wrong with my system, or did DX11 never get fully flushed out?

System spec for ref:

I7 930 @ 3.4 ghz
12 GB DDR 3 @ 1600
240 GB SSD
EVGA GTX750 1GB
650w PSU
TP Link wireless AC1900
Win 7 home 64bit

My guess is tons of people (especially people from Steam) are running in DX11 mode. I have since day one.

If you are going to test it, or even messing with the shader setting in the graphic setting, I would advise changing to DX11, exiting the game, going into saved games\mechwarrior online\shaders\

And deleting the cache folder. Then run the game.

This will make sure the game rebuilds the local shader files so your current render config and the shader files it is using won't have any conflicts. Things like mech lab and the maps will take an extra 10-20secs to load the first time as it rebuilds the stuff in the shader folder, but it will be cleaner and could help.

Are there actually any benefits whatsoever to running DX11 though.
Been on DX9, and never had any problems, glitches, performance or otherwise.

Depends, but the general concensus has been, not really any benfits besides better looking water. Whether it hurts performances depends on hardware I've heard some people report they get better fps with DX11. And vice versa. Probably map dependent too, some maps might play better, and maybe river city and the water shader causes fps dips.

Lighting looks better in DX11 and technically there should be less CPU overhead (which, in a CPU-bound game like MWO, is advantageous). We've never really measured DX9 vs DX11 definitively, though it will eventually be something to do.

Dx11 gives me 50-60 FPS in the mechlab, 30-40 FPS on the old maps and about 10 FPS on the redone maps on my potato.

Dx9 gives me 10 FPS in the mechlab, I'm too scared to drop into a game with it.

DX9 breaks the game on my laptop. Like mechs simply don't render. I might need to delete the shaders though.

I've always had DX11 enabled ever since it was available. Never had an issue, at least not one I could attribute to DX11. Granted, I don't actually play the game these days, so I couldn't tell you if things have changed on the DX11 front ;)
