I feel like a lot of what they said about mechs items and colors being extremely expensive was a bit over-blown, but its easy to see how a new player would look at this game and think that. Buying single mechs, c-bills, and non-one shot colors is wayyyy to expensive. But no one does that, I have a lot of colors, cockpit items, and mechs, but I either got them all for free, bought one shot, or bought mech packs which are the cheapest way to buy mechs (sans the occasional 50% off sale). Sales also happen all the time, which is when you should be buying things. But none of this is communicated to new players, they just see the stuff in the store. PGI really needs to permanently reduce the prices on buying single mechs.

The "buy three to master the one you want" skill tree system basically screws over newcomers who has only four starting mechbays. The free mechbay count should be raised a bit, to at least six. That way newbies will actually bring some elited mechs instead of garbage trials to CW. Posted Image

That or the whole "three to master" nonsense removed.
All it does is add unnecessary feeling of grind to the game.

If mech's were 1/3 the price I'd probably own everything by now. I don't mind spending real $ because I play this game so much, but when I see $55 for a Direwolf package!?!?!?!?! Get real PGI! I'll grind that ****.

I'd say the review was ok. The game is expensive but that is standard in F2P games they all are.
When you look at mech packages that cost 9000MC your spending $50 that is expensive for one set of mechs (irrespective of the value of the bundle the actual cost is expensive)

The the 3 to master a mech is a giant barrier for new players that needs to go away it's a terrible system.

What really needs to happen is a proper tutorial (not just the combat).

New player logs in...Greeted by X Tutorial Mechwarrior.
TMW gives new player new training mech (insert generic era light/medium)
TMW takes new player through some of the combat tutorial.
TMW then runs a tutorial mechlab (this is how the system works and its really really frelling important)
TMW gives new player an idea or two for modding the training mech )pointing out the changes to speed, dps, heat etc)
TMW then takes new player through the remaining combat tutorial with the modified mech.

The TMW then warns the player to stay away from joining faction warfare until he has more toys....(seriously do this)

At this point the New player has the Cbills from training (which should be enough for a mech purchase) and they could potentially keep the free mech maybe give them some premium time to hook them into playing.

Problem is, PGI have left the new player experience in an awful state and have show little desire to do what's needed.

Newcomers have no buissines in CW mate.
Master three or four Mech types, get a good team ( which is actualy even more important than mastering the mechs ) and you can think about joining CW.

Sorry but I realy think there should be a hard experience barrier like say eliting six mechs, that would be 215000 XP and the requirement to be in a unit to be able to drop in CW.

Judging from the fact thousands of newbies ignore what you just said and drop onto CW anyway, and PGI is not doing anything meaningful to stop it, I think PGI could increase the starting mechbays.

CW should ideally be locked until people have 500 matches under their belts.

1 hour long video?

Cliff notes would be appreciated. As far as pricing goes, I've spent upwards of $500 on this game (not sure of the actual amount, and I'm afraid to look) and I will say that the pricing is obscene. I'm not tight with my wallet when it comes to games I enjoy, but the prices in MWO are just ridiculous. Particularly the MC price for regular mechs, color, camo and cockpit items. It really frustrates me that new players keep buying Champion mechs, because they think it's a great deal. They're being ripped off, plain and simple.

The thing about expensive items is that it makes you very aware of how much you're spending, whereas microtransactions makes it easier to forget how much you've spent. Which is why I bought several 1500MC-pack, initially. Really poor value for money, but it's easier to "treat yourself" with a tiny purchase now and again.

PGI has to make money, so I can see charging for mech bays. After you fill up the 4 you're given, you should know if you like the game or not. They should at least give a starter pack, like 5 mechbays for the price of 2, and some free camo.
