I always had the impression that after i am killed i could safely exit the match and go for another one with a different match but I just realized that i didn't get any XP for that last match...
Has anything changed or was it always like that and quitting early never rewarded the XP/Gold?

That's pretty strange, actually. I know my money and PSR has continued to rise, and I've got so much XP that I don't pay attention to it, anymore, and won't until they rebuild the pilot trees, refund our XP, and allow us to build up how we want to build up, our abilities. So, no difference for me; however, I would keep an eye on it and see if it continues to happen, because it may be something PGI needs to fix.

Unless you didn't manage to do anything at all, leaving early will lose you all awards beyond the time at which your Mech died. In short, you can't leave the match until it's done if you want everything you earned. And the bug/problem has been present since before I started playing. Apparently PGI doesn't know how to code to handle post-death disconnects, or wants to force you to stay connected until everything is done. They don't care if you're limited for time in any way, or sick and tired of watching failure from your teammates.
