Sounds mods are bannable but whether deemed important to chase up players over it is the ? Changing game files...

Technically, yes. Whether or not they will track you down without someone claiming that you were cheating... That's a different story. So if you don't think anyone will claim, ever, that you cheat, you might be fine.

All they said was sound mods which give you an advantage are a bannable offense. They are unable to say yes you can use this sound mod, probably because they don't own the rights to mechwarrior 2.

A lot of people use the sound mod, or parts of it. It does not give any advantage in game therefore is fine to use.
