An idea that stems from an old SSI game Dragon Lance.
In that game you were able to send your heros off on individual quests.

So a MWO spin could be you could hire pilots to go in mechs you own on missions in your own galaxy to do recon, scout etc.

Players with 100+ mechs could send mechs on invasions etc.
Players with 4+ mechs can do recon for example.

Results are then reflected in your own map away from faction war results...
