Now that Steam has helped improve the population, and thus public queue wait times, maybe now PGI can truly consider adding a new game mode selection for Hardcore (for group and solo queue). I know this has been suggested in the past, but that was before we had more players.

In my opinion, hardcore mode could do the following to make it hopefully not require too much changes to the core game/code:

1) Not consider Tiers for matchmaking, just Mech weight class to balance the teams (this should help speed it up since it would likely have a much smaller population)

2) Double damage, or halve armor, whichever is easier to code (this would make it 1:1 with BattleTech values)

3) No Ghost Heat (because hardcore players don't need it)

And really that is all, nothing else about the game would need to change to give a good hardcore experience! Though maybe they can give a token 25% XP and CBill gain for playing in Hardcore mode Posted Image

10 minutes after they make hardcore mode Russ will add a solo Q and make tonnage limits on some type of group.

Real hardcore would have you lose your mechs on a loss and to be able to salvage enemy mechs on a win.

My suggestion is a way to make the combat hardcore, not the economy hardcore.

The game just wasn't made for that so it would be too difficult for them to make the economy of the game work for that.

That would be a good separate mode, but isn't really what I see as hardcore. I'm thinking more like the hardcore playlist back when I used to play Call of Duty (before it got taken over by luddites). Where one-shot kills and not having cheat radar made the game much more playable :)

Give everybody a spider with 1 PPC. Basically MWO: Quake.

A hardcore mode where your "progress" can be lost if you're killed, where salvage is possible, and where losing parts of your mech actually equates to having to replace them? That sounds great. A mode where people just die faster is not hardcore, it's just kind of silly. All things even, a skilled pilot with a good set-up can core an assault mech in less than a minute unless the target is good at spreading damage or getting into cover. Speed that up, and you're basically just negating player skill with big numbers.

I would rather just have my choice of game mode back, but a hardcore mode could be interesting if done well.

I think a better design for "hardcore mode" would be similar to this:

Expand the current Quick Play into 3 sections instead of 2. Retain the solo queue as an 'exhibition' solo queue, retain the group queue as an 'exhibition' group queue, and add a 'ranked' queue where solo players and groups are combined. With the 'ranked' queue there would be some exclusive achievements, perhaps some slightly more strict rules, etc. I could see a 'ranked' queue having things like repair and reload along with better rewards for good performance, thus increasing the risk vs reward factor. This would also be the only queue that posts stats to the leader board.

Do this for CW, because that's what the few people who still play CW insist that CW is all about.

The OP is describing a world in which the 6 PPC Awesome will be king!

...Until its shot by anything, also try and not think about all the other mechs that run more firepower and armor and less heat and move faster

Okay, OP is describing a world in which the 6 PPC Awesome is viable!

Anyway, it sounds like a pretty decently fun mode, matches would be quicker, armor values would be TT so ballistics and missiles would be considerably more decent. Light mechs might be able to use ballistics more effectively with a system like that. Also without ghost heat all kinds of crazy builds could happen.

It wouldn't be a bad thing to have, totally different than what we do have right now in terms of play, but a fun side mode.

My idea of hardcore mode is stock mode + half armor, so long as weapon and heat mechanics are actually balanced.

That would be utterly boring in MWO. Mechs are not agile enough and the maps are not made for duck and snapshot style gameplay.

In fact, they should do the exact opposite and limit maximal alpha to something like 30-40. Would make the game much more strategic.

Take the customization rules from tt and make it work in game. Want to put that gauss in place of a machine gun? Better hope your tech is up to the challenge or have a lot of cbills to spend on it. No MC to auto custom or P2W issues abound. We have the tt game numbers, a % chance of success system could be made based off it. Make owned mechs not losable, but disabled until repaired (I don't know, maybe a literally "x" rounds to repair thing). If you want to salvage anything more then ammo and non mech parts, either earnings would be increased a lot, or a way to retire from the battle/ransom system would be needed so people could retain thier damaged but functional mechs. Also hard core mode would be best in cw only, or a separate mode unconnected to our current system, or bad things would happen. More but can't think atm.

I have to agree with the 2 posts before. Lose your mech and gain points towards salvage. That would be great fun and an added twist. My own little twist to the idea, only canon variants allowed, no customs. I think that would be awesome.
