It's a dumb term. A lot of gamer slang is meant to degrade some one any way.

The only proper use of the word skittles I have heard is by xImpalerx. He named his urbie skittles because he painted it bright candy colors.

A lesson in the proper use of "slang"? Ironic and hilarious at the same time.

I like the term. It always brings a small chuckle seeing all the colors on the other side and seeing if there's one from each faction. It's good to have your own unique slang in games, as it helps players feel more involved with the player base as they learn different terms. I know I'd be annoyed if I heard someone referring to a dual-AC20 King Crab as a "Boom Jager."

Skittles isn't meant to be degrading. "Pug," "Noob," "Glue Eater," etc. are terms that are meant to be degrading, and they apply to pretty much every game out there.

From map locations (ex: Stargate) to mech loadouts (ex: Streakcrow), I'd say there's a greater amount of non-derogatory slang within MWO.

Lolz.
As the creator of the term skittles, it actually is slang for Clanners.
Reds - Clan Wolf
Greens - Jade Falcons
Yellows - Smoke Kitties
Purples - Ghost Bears yeah I know but have you seen any white skittles?
Never had anything to do with pugs.

Yes. Skittles that got messed up, chocolate skittles, and there was at least 4 different kinds in Europe that had them. Because of your show lack of skittle knowledge, I can no longer take anything you say seriously.

I see people use this term a lot lately and not actually understanding what it means. Some apparently thinks it's the same as "noob", but it's not.

Skittles is just a PUG formed from players from different factions. PUG is not the same as "skittles" because you can have a PUG formed from players of the same faction. The term is usually used in the context of CW/faction play where players from multiple factions form together in a PUG on a defense (and currently only possibly in a defense on the IS/clan border). Why skittles? Because the different factions = different colors of their faction logo = look like the candy. They're not always noobs because you can have experienced solo players in CW. And just because an attacking team comes from the same faction doesn't mean they're good or even well coordinated. So skittles defense can often beat PUG attackers.

Personally I think the term conveys nothing of value. There's nothing inherently special about PUGs coming from the same faction other than they're wearing the same faction color. Just my .02.

Thanks for this clarification, I've only seen it used in the context of a disorganised team that is easily bowled over, so thought that was what it meant

I always thought Skittles was referring to the game of knocking down pins, which makes sense against badly organised groups, but then I am English. I didn't realise your were all obsessed by sweets.

To the false Skittle priest, I say thee nay! You know not of the Skittles, for the Skittles two known as chocolate and its brethren chocolate mix were both seen in the US of A. And if one was to gaze upon these honorable bags and boxes thay would know Skittles white and Skittles off-white be confined within them.

Nay I brand thee heretic and a worshipper of false skittles.
Woe be unto thee.
May the skittle forever be foul taste in thy mouth.
May the false skittles forever stain thy lips.
And may thy skittles bag always be filled with out of date skittles.
Repent idolater of false skittles!

Hey... hold it there... there is a reason, why we proper mainland Europeans do not consider England (yes, this is intentional, the Scottish are fine ;) :P ) as part of Europe. Posted Image

skittles: a lot of different factions, mostly made of cta players and pugs, but may contain smaller groups.
pugs: players who drop solo.

neither has anything to do with those players personal skills or lack there of. ive been a skittle on many a team of pugs who fought (insert random big merc unit here) and bent them over so far that they could literally taste the rainbow.
