One thing that's long bugged me is that usually you can't tell where you've spawned on a map until the round actually starts. You can see little bits of blur out the canopy, but it's not really very informative in most cases, especially for newer players. You also can't tell at a glance where the rest of your team is in addition to your lance. Similarly, if you're a newer player who doesn't have everything memorized yet, you can't check the map to remind yourself where cap points are (or what they're named in conquest, which is something even I still forget sometimes) until after the match has started.
This seems like exactly the sort of thing that ought to be displayed on that completely blank map in the drop preparation screen, but it's not. (Indeed, I'd have to question why that map is even there currently, given how little information it shows.) Why not have that map show the starting positions of your lance, your team's other lances, and any objectives? It's one of those little things that would really help out newer players who don't have all of those things memorized yet.
I've made a mockup in GIMP of what this might look like:

As you can see, it's not a very huge change. This isn't one of those 'big' features, just another little UI element that doesn't work like it ought to and would make the game easier to play.
