I went cheap, but it works great! Everyone hears me on mike (and I talk softly becauae a baby sleeps in the next room) and the sound quality is excellent. Got it a year ago and works just as well as the day I got it.

SADES SA-708 Stereo Gaming Headphone Headset with Microphone

Thanks for all the great feedback and suggestions everyone!
Plenty to consider and I've started reviewing them all. Hope to get one ordered this week (decided to not order yesterday to ensure I get the right set for me).

talk to you all on the field soon :)

Not sure if it fits your needs, but if you have audio headphones you like (or love), I use on of these: Modmic. Sound quality is great and I get to use my audio headphones.

Thats basically what I wrote earlier... however for a fraction of the cost if you make it yourself
headphones (Same as in the modmic link, however just over half price);
http://www.thomann.d...erlux_hd681.htm
Arm for mic (You can use this mic to save additional costs, but the quality is probably meh);
http://www.amazon.de...r/dp/B011BN8KHO
Mic (Good quality) to clip onto the arm;
http://www.amazon.de.../dp/B00029MTMQ/

You can skip the clip on mic if you want to try the cheap mic set first, then you would be at arouns 21 EUR (aprox. 23 USD), otherwise you would be at an additional 9 EUR (10 USD) for the better mic.

If you want to make the arm yourself... there is always the handymans do it yourself company (AKA Lego)

I just recently upgraded from a Turtle beach X12 to a Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma

I don't have any issues with the usb as this has an onboard soundcard. You do have to select which device to use before launching for the audio card and restart mwo if you want to change it but works fine haven't ran into any issues

USB headsets I'm not too sure about - I've had people using them have random comm issues with Teamspeak and MWO. As an alternative, might I suggest a splitter? Your local electronics store should have them for a few bucks. It's basically just a "y" in the line, with two holes going in, and one prong going out. You plug your headset audio into one hole, your speaker audio (or the main audio channel, depending) into another, and your mic directly into the sound card. I've used this setup for years, and it works well - though I do advise buying speakers with a dedicated "off" button.

Just something to keep in mind, unless you have a quality audio card as well, dont bother shelling out for the fancier headsets. You wont get what you are paying for.

I actually find the sound quality of Steel Series to be quite good for the price range. The biggest issue is they do not seem to be very robust.

But Senheiser is a capital idea.

I recently picked up a Logitech G430 on sale to replace my broken Steel Series. For some reason it sounds incredibly thin and "digitally" on MWO. I had to almost completely EQ out the highs and really boost the bass and low mids to make it not sound like complete crap. The clarity and stereo spacing of frequencies is pretty good, just no oomph or power.
Yet, with other games a flat-ish EQ sounds great with em. Matter of fact, if I use my MWO EQ profile on any other game the sound is way too boomy and rumbly.

I too find the Steel Series sound very good, especially for the price. I have had no issues with mine, and I haven't heard any buzzing. FWIW, I am a musician, so I am very sound conscious. Totally agree about the robustness of Steel Series though. I have been very careful with my mic so no issues in two years. Knock on wood.

Very soon I will be buying a Sennheiser Game Zero and giving my Steel Series to my 14 year old so that he can have a better headset than what he's using.

The buzzing i meant is when someone is using the mic, the mic itself gives of a weird buzzing/hissing noise. Which is very annoying when you're using it in TS at all times.

I personally reviewed a tons of headset at my pricerange, about 100$ at the time, and the choise went to the qpad qh90s, because of their superb mic. And the sound is astounishing aswell. This brand might be slightly unherd of outside of EU, i dunno.

But here in EU they're a highly regarded brand, steelseries esp cyberia ones, are mostly "pay for the brand, get crap quality" thing.

As for TS: Mod mic is the best u can get, if you've already a pair of great headset to use. :)
Alot of ppl i know use their own headset with a modmic,

Nah gonna pass on spending more money. The one I have works for everything else just not for MWO. I'll just use the cam mic till they find a cure for the problem.

I don't think it is actually the headsets. Spent 4 hours with sound popping and no mic. No change on my end and everything is clear. Whatever is happening is on their end.

Wish I could help with a final recommendation but I ended up going with the ModMic from Antlion since it was just my mic that fritzed out on me. But there were several good suggestions by others made that I nearly went for above.

Bilbo, I have on occasion had that popping go on for a few matches... always assumed it was a loose plug or something on my end.. I'll listen for it and see if I notice a pattern but you may be right.. something on their end.. maybe heavy server loads during events or something.. dunno.

Only problem is, it's only this game. I can exit the client and play a video and it's crystal clear. Log back in and the popping is back. Last night, it was like that for 2-3 hours, then all of sudden every thing was crystal clear for a couple hours before I quit for the night.

My USB headset does not work in game except for VOIP. I can chat through it and hear chat, but nothing else. Very frustrating and I can't find any explanation or fix that has been posted. The headphones work with every other application I have tried.

Check your ingame settings, there is audio device selection for different types of sounds. Normally they should all be default and you should the USB headset configured as default device for everything from Windows.

You can direclty select the device from MWO too. And also check the sound volume levels as voip has different settings than rest of the game.

I got a Sades 708 GT headset two days ago... It's awesome. Unfortunately, my computer and the mike to the headset are not getting along. Laptop insists on using the internal microphone... if I disable that, nothing works. *sigh*
Went to Microsoft to get some help and worked on this for a couple of hours... both the IT guys AND a Specialist. When they get stumped, you know you're in deep doo doo.

You need to make the headset microphone the primary communications device.

I got sick of all my headsets breaking for various reasons, so I went and bought a legit microphone that sits on my desk.
