PGI, Do you want to address the issue of taking damage while still in the drop ship? I should never come out of the drop ship already at 94% because the enemy can shoot me while still in the drop ship.
This happens mostly on Sulfuris. It is not from a spawn camper either.

Better thing would be to return the drop ships back to med lasers then folks would stop hiding under them hoping to win by "Dan's" gunnery quirks......

Okay, I see where your coming from. I could see it being kinda annoying to be getting fired upon before your mech can move. However, it may be ages before something is done considering how long it took so supercharge the dropship lasers and move most dropships to a further back more protected landing zone. So I would suggest looking into alternative ways to avoid getting shot at in your spawn.
Me personally, I prefer to meet the enemy as far from my spawn as possible, so as to avoid that particular unpleasantness. With any luck, even if you die an get overrun you'll be able to drop in your next mech before the enemy gets there.
As Dropship Dan is always telling us, 'Remember, only you can prevent spawn camping'
Edit: Wait, what, not from spawn camping? From what I recall the dropships come in from the sides and you hafta shoot through the bottom, not the sides, to get to mechy goodness inside. Not sure how this is happening to you outside of a spawn camping situation.

To be fair there is a hole in the bottom of the drop ship where your mech is exposed. Hell 228 did a video where they stacked on top of each other with jumpjets and the guy on top of the stack was able to hop inside of the enemy drop ship and fly around in it for a bit.

Sometimes Im not even sure it is the opponent which is causing the damage, as it sometimes happens when you are still in transit (ie the ship is still moving towards the drop off position. Without an aimbot, this would be impossible to consistently deal more than minimal damage (display would be at 99% and not lower) at such speeds and distances.
What is more likely, is that the dropships themselves are dealing the damage to the mechs inside of them much in the same way that friendly turrets can kill you if you stand between them and the targeted opponent. If the dropship is landing and an enemy mech is at an angle to the right (for example), if the left wing Laser then shoots, then it may actually be trying to shoot through the Dropship and mech inside to the target. Again, Im of course not 100% sure on this, but it is a theory worth testing.

I will get shot by my own drop ships from time-to-time. I suspect it is when the drop ship fires on an enemy while it is inbound (not at the drop location) and the enemy position combined with the ships movement leads the ship to "fly" my mech through its beam path.

hail to all drop ship pilots, i never let a drop ship pilot pay his bill at the club, if you are going to remove their lasers, increase the ones on the ground.
sometimes when you drop and they shoot, you fall through their laser and get team damage from the drop ship

I saw that and it got me thinking. If they can make a siege tower tall enough, could they hop on the top of the dropship and fly away into the sunset (explosive sunset as you would rapidly go out-of-bounds and die but still.....)?
Probably Taiga would be the best as you have that enormous drop off to make the 12 player super duper siege tower then you just slowly ascend up the slope and board said dropship. Other maps might work as well but the distance on Taiga would be the shortest.

Dropships should have AC2's anyhow. Would be way more of a deterrent getting spammed by a couple dozen of those than ERLL.
