As someone who had a three pack a day habit to deal with stress, nerves, and the general urge to kill everyone around me, I could sympathize with a FICTIONAL character that smokes because their life is largely the stresses of constant battle. I'm sure what nicotine does was the least of her problems.

and yet the reason people add cigarettes to "art" tends to be the same reasons as advertising. After all, I'm sure that FICTIONAL stress has better cures in the 31st century.... I doubt people were living to 125 on average because of their 2 packs a day of Space-Camels.
Seems like you haven't quite nipped that stress/psychosis thing in the bud yet, but congrats for trying.
