Great in theory, horrible in practice.
It's open to too much abuse:
1. People using foul language and racism to demoralize you. Nice in the lore ("freebirrrrrth") but horrible in our universe. Sure, report the racists and people playing loud music through the mic, but is that enough to curb the problem?
In games with mic allchat, it's a constant stream of inappropriate insults and loud music. If it gets out of hand, PGI will end up reverting the feature anyway.
2. People could abuse it strategically, using soundboards to mimic laser shots, missile warnings, etc. They could just use it to scream at the other player at a critical moment to throw them off. Sure, these are far-fetched, but the opportunity would be there.
I gotta say though, your idea would work just fine even beyond just 1v1s if everyone played nice ...Or
roleplayed nice.

Hows about you open the in game mic chat to both teams if it gets down to 1 vs 1.
