Oh come on . . . isn't it about time we were able to choose our mech depending on which map were going to land on . . .

What fudge nut of a genral is going to take heat heavey weapons on a mech with fudging snow camofluage in to a jungle situation ....

And why would you land on a wide open expensed snow planet in a woodland camofluaged with a close range heavy ammunition dependant build ????

Isn't it bad enough that we have to swallow the fact that an advanced civilisation that can put men and equipment on other planets still thinks its a good idea to sling weapons below the firing position of a pilot or to have fudging hands....fudging hands ... that do fudge all in a fudging battle weapon . . . Even the bovine excrement peddled by Donald Trump (trump by the way were I come from is a word for fart) ... seems to make more sense ....

"But ... but.....but in the books they use axes and sword and stuff . . . ."

Well this isn't the fudging books .... they also have hover tanks and fudging suites of armour for the infantry .... can't see any of those either .......

Ok I'l sit back now while the fudging fan boys rip me apart ....

Honestly ... if this wasn't the best multiplayer game on the internet I'd go and play something else .

Are you seriously trying to argue realism in a giant robot game?

Plus would you really enjoy playing with a single 'best' mech type on each map?

You have a valid and worthwhile point . . .
But there is a difference between logic and blatant stupidity ....

I agree. It's so great to pick universal build, like sniper one, and stomp brawlers at snipe-Meta map. Yeah? It's so smart to protect your advantage, but no. Balance - is when everybody is in equal conditions.

This is why Gauss + LL/PPC was so popular, because no matter what map you're on, you're never out of place.

Yeah, I've been wanting this since I started playing.

I love rocking up to Polar in my black TBR with LB20X and 4 SRM 6s. I literally have a life span of: Whenever I decide to advance. Which is usually when the score is around 0-11.

Figure out how to make your brawler work on Polar just like LRMs had to figure out how to make their weapons work on Bog and Mordor. There's more concealment than any other map in the game. In no other map can you maneuver around your enemy without them ever seeing you. Or.... build a balanced mech......

Honestly.... Camo and color does nothing for you in MWO. You can look just like a tree with camo and paint in F.Colony but you will still stand out as a dark object at distance.... The game does not draw that much detail at distance. Besides... targeting eliminates camo.... ECM is the game camo.

I have brawlers but have squeezed in at least an ER Laser or 2 within the builds so I am not limited to 500m max on maps like Peaks, Desert, Highlands, etc...

I think the select mech should be implemented regardless.... If you have variants of the mech you have active.... but not be able to select any mech you have... It would make keeping those variants more worthwhile other than just having them to master.

Heh. "Fudging..." I am rather fond of fudge.

Okay so I'll bite at the fanboy part. You know in setting a 'Mech would usually have to make do with it's stock loadout and it'd take DAYS if not MONTHS for a 'Mech to change it's weapons and armour? You know how long it'd take to change the engine of a Battlemech in setting? Literally around 6 months. I would not envy those Techs. Add to that, outside of Solaris a 'Mech was honestly never really customised or altered in any way shape or form. Most of the tech in the cockpit didn't even work because no one remembered what the hell that dial or switch was for anyway.

So the best thing they could do was make sure it had enough supplies to last the anticipated engagement, while also taking into account the 'Mech's expected survival rate\time. Also camo was rarely used in BT, was more house colours (Bright Red\green\blue) and 'Merc unit colours. It's hard to hide a building sizes 'Mech shooting big "I'M OVER HERE" lasers after all.

So a lot of things we have to put up with to make sense in setting. Which seems to be your argument anyways? Right?

This is my favourite kind of thread.

Camo doesnt work in game. But it makes sense to walk though a hot desert in something other than your winter clothes.

I like the whole idea of being able to pick the mech for the map you land on, but the OP just rants too much and gets off topic.

Would definitely make the game a lot more fun to be able to pick the mech you want for the map you get on. You can actually use your brawlers or your snipers and never have matches were you were worthless. I mean, right now you can try and build a mech with weapons at either range, but that is one of the reasons we have so many people with the ERLL+gauss builds, or the CLPL+ERML builds, because those work at any range. The moment we start letting people pick out their brawlers or snipers for each map then we can have a level playing field that isn't decided solely by what mechs each team had selected before someone x12ed it.

With Polar Highlands coming out recently I've found that my matches are mostly decided by the team composition. If I see we have no ECM and no LRMs I know its pretty much game over for that map unless the enemy team also managed to be as unprepared for that map. I tend to always go and get the worst map possible for a lot of mechs I play, LRMs on crimson strait, brawlers on alpine, laser boats on terra therma. All I wish is that I could see the map, then pick a mech so that I could improve my enjoyment so that I know I won't be sitting around waiting to be able to do something for most, if not all, of the match.

Aff, same situation here, which makes me resent not being able to switch my Omnimechs config around before battle even more.
That said... LRMs are great on Crimson Strait, if they happen to be on a fast, jump capable and ECM+BAP equipped mech like a Shadowcat B... jump up on the hill, spot everyone and everything and rain down the fun while providing locks for your teammates with LRMs.

The best part? Unlike Lasers and to some extent PPCs, LRMs are much harder to track from the damage indicator... they can come from everywhere after all. Posted Image

I did have some fun with an LRM Shadow Cat doing that, but my memories tend to include trying to do anything as an LRM Maddog with the entire enemy team in the tunnel a bit more often.

Completely opposite here.
Build your mech, so it works on any map that can come up.
Adapt your play-style.

Seriously, if you bring an SRM-brawler and get thrown onto a wide, open map or a heat-bleeding laser vomit build and are thrown into a furnace, that´s your own damn fault.
Personally, _all_ my mechs carry a mix of longish-range and short-range weapons. Sure, if I land on Mining Colony in my balanced build, you will probably out-damage me in your short-range brawler, but on the other hand, if we meet on Alpine or Polar, I´ll probably do better than you (strictly talking mech-build here, not skill).

You know, choices and consequences.

In this case all our 'Mechs will carry exactly the same builds - may be 2-3 different in a best case. And we want to play diverse builds, not always the same. Before quitting this game, I was playing 4 different 'Mechs at the same time. Only one of them was suitable for Meta maps, like Polar Highlands. And as Polar Highlands pops too often now, I had three choices: 1) To play only one of my 4 'Mechs. 2) To load the same build into all 4 and play them as one. 3) To quit this game (fanboys usually forget about this variant, when they talk about choices). I have a principles: if I have 4 'Mechs - 1) I should be able to play all 4. 2) They should be different 'Mechs, not the same. So I have chosen 3rd variant.

Yeah. When I'm in my LRM 'Mech at Polar Highlands, that was chosen by "majority" of voices, and see, that my team completely fails to lock targets and being stomped due to this, I usually say "If you can't lock targets - don't pick that map". I usually say it in <All> chat. Do you know, what one of enemies answered me, when in one of the matches my team was stomped? "Ha ha ha. It's not your team, that picked this map - it's ours." So, people bring their LRM boats, then stack multiplier to get on Meta map and stomp other players. But... You know, how mad they become, if someone manages to avoid this map? Oh... So much rage in chat.

Bad idea and rather simplistic.
Most times in the real world you fight with the army you have.
Not the one you wished you had.
But of course you would like the most optimal mechs for every single map.
Wouldn't you?
How boring and ultimately bad for new players such as yourself.
I'm assuming your'e of course.
So if you are welcome, but don't dumb down my game.
We had had more than enough of that over the years.
Oh by the way I like Trump.
