Not with doubled armor values. The AC/2 also has only 60m more range than the Gauss rifle. I am pretty sure anyone running toward the hunchback in a repeated X patern (well think of it as running only half the X) could dodge the projectile at ranges beyond 650 meters.

Actually I think the Hunchback build looks fine if you think about what you would use it for: scout killing and long range harassment (perhaps some bating). I am guessing he has maxed out the armor and increased the speed to 5/8 and added 1 ton of AC/2 ammunition. The only reason to bring 2 AC/2s over 1 AC/10 is for the long range harassment ability. I could easily see the stock Atlas losing to this build as it has no range attack other than the LRM 20 which the hunchback can probably largely evade. Which is why I would never use the stock Atlas 7D and I would immediately install a Gauss rifle.

What bothers me is the goofy build on the Atlas. I can only assume that ranged load out was to test how it would do against a long range opponent. There is no reason to bring an LRM (that has at least 1 extra ton of ammunition) into a fight against a smaller mech who is faster than you as he can control the range of the fight.

Keep in mind every Mechwarrior game to date has tried to make AC2's more effective by giving them a really low recycle time so they have a decent DPS per ton. So they become really good for chewing up light mechs. So anything fast enough to close in on you can be battered pretty badly.

And with the 86 kph run speed, (53 kph in reverse) it can keep well out of range of assault mechs and slow heavies with heavy AC's.

The only thing it needs to watch out for are other fast mediums or PPC/Gauss boats.
