Just like you're told in every mechwarrior experience, you aren't a lone wolf hero. You're only as good as the pilots around you.
That being said, the middle of the map is clear no mans land. The trenches encircling it are reminiscent of WW1.
If you go up, you're going to go down. If you're planning on doing it anyway, you better hope your whole team does a quick sweep into the enimens position. So you're better off not doing any of it.
Its a trench warfare map, its cool in concept and in play.

The highlighted text sums up my problem with this map; "You'd better hope your team..." and fill in the blank with the following:
- Does some scouting
- Does NOT "scout" by running off to die alone
- Brings some LRM's
- Does NOT bring something useless, like an all LRM Atlas
- Brings some anti-LRM tech
- Actually uses that tech correctly
And the list goes on and on. That's why I don't like the new map. It is unlike all the others, which is not bad by definition, but means most people won't be sure how to play it. It also strongly encourages certain very specific load-outs, namely LRM's and long-range weapons. And it heavily punishes even the smallest mistake, such as going a bit too high up on a ridge and getting alpha-ed to death by the whole enemy team. Same idea with too little scouting, too much scouting (running off to die), engaging in the wrong location, etc.
In short, it is a map where teamwork is far more important than individual skill, which sounds great in theory in a team game, but is a miserable experience in solo queue or even in the group queue in a small group. When you get dropped on this map on a team where nobody is interested in scouting and you have at least one "derp-assault" that has been cobbled into a horrible LRM boat, you've basically lost the match from the start (unless the enemy team is in even worse shape), even if you are a decent player in a decent mech.

I would say that the new map is TOP *****. Having only played it in my Warhammers, as I have been leveling them, but with builds ranging from knife close (6spl+3SRM6- got me one kill before dying horribly) to medium range(LL+LRM), allways without ecm as WHMs don't have it, i can safely say that favoring towards LRMs is not to bad. But it takes skill and thought to play it well. Radar depr. helps but again if your positioning is good it's not a msut.
Can't wait to put Narc Raven and Pirate's Bane on it though.

I love the new map, it rewards maneuver warfare. For those saying you can't run brawlers on Hoth, you're wrong. If I can run an AC20/SRM Atlas succesfully on there, ANYONE can.
