I have had to use Teamspeak up until the release of VoIP in-game for MWO, and ever since VoIP has come out... I've continued to use Teamspeak.

Of course, MWO's VoIP sounds terrible. It has a tinny quality to it that sounds like I'm talking to someone at a drive-thru menu, but that's not the main issue that I have.

The main issue is that there's no volume balance. One guy comes into the game and barely whispers into their mic. Especially if they've got a strong accent, I can't make heads or tails of what they're saying, so I have to go into the game settings when the action is over and turn the VoIP volume up. The next match with a whole new batch of players, another guy has his mic jacked up to 11 and drowns out every other sound in the game. After I'm done wiping fresh blood from my ears, I have to turn the volume down after the match.

This is the problem that I have with VoIP in it's current state. I can mute players or turn off the sound, but VoIP should be able to auto-adjust to the sound so that I don't have to shut my mech down just to hear what the other guy is saying, only to be rendered deaf by another player who doesn't have an inside voice. Setting the sound to a certain decibel setting, if not as average then as max, would be ideal.
