I know there are a million posts regarding this, but searches always show you...a million pots. Sooo...
Here is what I'm asking, if you bother to answer.
1. Do I need voice comms to start clan/is warfare? I'm tied of always dropping with the quick group guys, but currently my mic is broken and I don't have a good alternative.
2. What mechs do I need to have for such a deployment? I have a mech in every weight class except assault that I'm comfortable with, no assault because - reasons. So, what do I need?
3. Anything else I need to know?

1. Depends. Want to win more often? Than yes.
2. Okay, this might get me flamed by a couple of people but start with this as an outline, then tweak things to suit you-- http://metamechs.com...munity-warfare/
3. Have fun, CW phase 3 is around the corner, it should change A LOT, and for the better soon.

Get a mic ASAP--and don't skimp on the price.

1. No, but you need to be competent enough to communicate via text and have voip on. Especially if you haven't been playing for some time and can very quickly pick up on what targets your team is firing upon without calls.
2. 3 Heavies and a medium is fine. Just fill up the tonnage with armor and weaponry the best that your are able.
3. LFG + Faction chat + TS hubs.

No, you don't. You can join your faction / unit TS server and just listen to the guys there. But having a mic will improve your experience a lot, so get one if you have the oportunity.

I'd say working with your team is quite more important than using meta approved mechs. Check metamechs or any similar site for inspiration, but, as your stable of mechs grows, you will find what mechs suit you best (maybe you suck in a very popular mech and excel in a very unpopular one, i'm awful with the ultra popular thunderbolts).

Some general advice, i hope it helps you.
* Follow the drop commander orders even if you think it's a bad idea. (s)He is a human being and makes mistakes, but trying to do your own thing while the other 11 players are trying something different doesn't help.
* Always push with your team, staying in the back will not help you if the other 11 guys die. This way you will be one more target for the enemy to spread the incoming damage.
* After death, don't join the fight inmediately, wait for the next wave of your team to regroup. There are exceptions, but 99% of the time this is the best move. This way your team will have 4 full waves of 12 mechs, if you lose all your mechs early, the last waves will have a numerical disadvantage.
* In counter attack, omega doesn't matter unless your team has a kill advantage (this is a very common mistake).

1. Save up $50 for a decent mic ASAP. It's worth it for so many different games and of course other applications as well (VOIP, conference calls, etc)
2. Just bring 4 mechs that you're good in. In general... long range is gonna be better but... if you're clever you can make almost anything work.
3. Find a group with the LFG function. 12 semi organized people working together and coordinating their mech drops will do better against an organized opponent than a normal PuG.

Yes, get the headset, and get a good one. I skimped on the quality, and that was a mistake. Now I need a much better one.
Yes, you do need one - you can play without it, but it is only half the game you want to be playing.
Heavy mechs are a great place to start - fast enough to get to the fight and keep with the group, strong enough to bring the pain and win. Tough enough to last a while, so you can earn some money.
Start dropping with the teams. You don't have to join them, but you do want to drop with them. You will learn more, much faster, and you will win more often, earning much better income. If you don't know anybody yet, then choose the FRR as a faction and start dropping with their CW pug groups on their public teamspeak server. It's a great place to start out, and you can get access to training, etc, there.
Be patient, it takes a long time to acquire the skills and proper equipment you will need for good CW results, but being in 12 man groups goes a long way towards victory and enhanced CW earnings - and you will pick up on what you need to obtain simply by watching and listening to the other players in your groups.
