In this case it does as there is a distinct difference between the Battletech IP and the Mechwarrior one. As everyone keeps pointing out
Hell there even was a difference in RPG. In Mechwarrior you RPed the pilot, with stats an all in Battletech it was more overall troop movements
MechWarrior is an IP under the general Battletech franchise. Every MechWarrior game is a Battletech IP.
Separate, games, yes. But being labelled "MechWarrior" does not separate it from the BT franchise.
My point still stands. Either way, they are names that don't define everything about the particular.

I think the biggest thing for me is how tough 'mechs seem to be in MWO compared to table top. Double armor/stucture, structure quirks, 60% reduced damage transfer, no through-armor criticals, dramatically increased head structure, ammo explosion chance reduced by 90%, no gyro crits, no engine crits, no actuator crits, no cockpit crits, items have hit points instead of being instantly destroyed, no heat-induced ammo explosions, no pilot damage, etc. That there's no chance at all that an undamaged Atlas will be destroyed by a single AC/2 shot irritates me.
Also, I once kicked the head off an Atlas with an Awesome standing on a level 1 hill. This is, in my opinion, the most BattleTech thing ever, and nothing like it can happen in MWO. PGI needs to fix their weird teleporting collisions and let us start beating on each other!

I am convinced TACs are the reason that medium mechs were the staple of many armies. Cheaper to field, comparable or superior speed to heavier mechs, with enough armor to get close.
I once killed an Enforcer and a Victor in one round with a Valkyrie.

Battletech as a brand has not aged well and the current owners Topps DGAF. Just check out Battletech's homepage - http://bg.battletech.com/
I really like what PGI has done to somewhat modernize the brand with MWO. Overall, PGI has a done a good job, considering mega-developer EA completely flopped with Titanfall, a mech-based shooter which had insane amount of funding and resources.

I especially like the picture link on http://bg.battletech.com/ to http://www.battletech.com/ , the one that says "Dive into the universe beyond the board game!"
