XL195 engine for half decent speed (70.2 kph) and 2 JJ for maneuverability.
Gauss Rifle to reach out far, far away, with 35 rounds
2 ML and SRM4 for close range DPS, when cornered
Use of 195 engine over 200 means 1 more heat sink must be outside the engine - more crit cushioning with DHS to protect the XL, and allows an extra 5 shots of Gauss ammo

if you want to use more 'standard' engine sizes, here's the version with 200XL

I am unhappy with the idea of placing an XL engine in this mech, or placing so much rearward armour, but as it's designed for new players, I felt the need to re-position and survive a backshot was more important than my usual considerations.

2xML
1xAms

This 'Mech should not brawl. Muted color scheme recommended. Keep away from the fight as long as possible, plinking away with the missile rack. Snipe with the PPC when able, but if you can see them... get moving! Properly played, this little guy can rack up a surprising amount of damage. Bigger fan of the SIB, but... this has become a go-to 'Mech. REALLY good when combined with some solid team tactics.
These load outs are ******* awful. Do you really think a new player could get the hang of this mech with these weapons?

This is an excellent loadout, and I endorse it.

2*PPC
5*jj
14 DHS
255 XL
Vindicator as PPC mech is inferior to BJ-3 and have only two advantages over BJ-3:
- ability to carry more JJ
- higher engine cap

A variation on a theme common here. This is my "big game hunter". It doesn't have the high DPS or is a good light fighter, but it blows out the candles on heavies and assaults with scary consistency with it's over/under PPC shotgun right arm. (So you can peek full powered)
The reason for 2 SPLs instead of MLs? Heat control AND faster cyclic. You can slowly cool down while firing on some maps. Anything inside their range is often inside the minimum range of the PPCs, and when you have the MLs, you're tempted to use them and overheat much faster instead of focusing on using your PPCs.

So wait, Lasers and ACs are too tough to learn? Okay, first I've heard of that, but let's see what you got...

So wait, rather'n suggest a new player learns the game on a cool running mech with some hitscan an some lead weapons, you want them to try it out on a heat intensive mech with some hitscan an some lead weapons. Oh, and instead of using ACs, which hit at any range you'd rather they use ppcs, which have a minimum range bracket that most newfolk don't know about.
........
I don't think I can actually have a constructive arguement with you.

News flash: The Vindicator is the worst medium chassis in the game, when you load it up with a single mpl, and lrm rack, and a single ppc, you won't be doing your team any favors. The 1X shouldn't even be suggested as a champion mech because it doesn't have the tonnage to make effective use of any ballistics. PPC and an Ac5? Go buy a cicada 3c.
Vindicators work best with twin ppcs/lpl and a few medium lasers. Yes my build is hot, but it should help teach heat management if nothing else, medium lasers are back up weapons, you shouldn't be firing them to a high degree. Stay in the rear, and poptart when you can.
Are you seriously going to tell me a Vindicator with 1MPL, 1LRM10A, 1PPC is going to be an effective mech for a new player?
EDIT: Your twin AC5 build is best served on a Shadowhawk. A Vindicator moving at 77kph is almost a death sentence. Vindicators have PPC quirks, so the lack of any on your build is a little strange.

Here you go.
Full jump jets because if you have less than four you pretty much might as well only have one. Heavy close-combat loadout, and if you set the SRM and head laser on a separate weapons group, pretty easy to learn heat management. Standard engine helps durability as well.
I was really tempted to put a heavier, longer-range weapon on this, but that would have pretty much necessitated an XL engine excepting a combo of one large and several medium lasers. PPCs are a little prohibitively hot and heavy on a 'mech like this.
With the good heat handling, you could drop a DHS for Artemis.

Vindicator-1AA ...with Polar Highland induced AMS Syndrome.
295XL, 3JJ, LPL, 3ML, SRM6A, and AMS.
SRM and AMS have one ton of ammo each.
Originally, it had an under slung MPL on the right arm and a fourth Jump Jet in the Center Torso.

220XL
2 AC/5s
2 ML
3 JJs
AMS
With XL engine mobility is a key on such a fragile mech. So yes, if caught - you're dead. But that's why 220XL and 3JJs. With correct positioniong and hiding behind tankier allies you got high amount of firepower that you can deliver non-stop. With 2 AC/5s you are good at any range and can shake the cockpit of a much heavier mech. Swap AMS for more AC/5 ammo if you're good at moving around and surviving.

Yeah, the Vindie doesn't have the greatest paint scheme to it... and mine is named the "Mad Parrot". (My R is the Norwegian Blu so you see the theme I have going) So it got parrot like colors.

This is a riff on Kjudoon's build. I prefer SRMs and more brawl-age so I replaced the second PPC with a Large Laser (similar range profile), added two heat sinks, and an ASRM6 with two tons. I'd run it ganged up with the small lasers for an up close and personal statement with a one-two punch from the laser, and use the PPC for a calling card. 94 kph speed-tweaked and 32% heat, near max armor, and two jump jets for a little judicious poptarting on Polar Highlands.

You don't have to be the fastest kid on the block to count, hang with the heavies. Range and speed to match most IS Heavy mechs with a slender torso, use their bulk to shield yourself.
