Sensible Thoughts On Shs... Hehehe!

LOL! no... seriously... LOL! Maybe guys like McGral12 and his friggin' math geek Canadian friends already know this, I only dabble in 'the language of the universe' for fun BUT... Single heat sinks are better for IS Assaults than Double heat sinks.
[This is where I would have put the math if I were somebody that cared]
WHAAAAAAAAA... Tyler Valentine!? You're ******' crazy (crazy handsome maybe)... single heat sinks have no role in this game, they're even more useless than FF armor and Command Consoles.
WRONG. (HA! You're dumb for saying that reader)
Have you invested a few million to actually change your builds and try it out...?
Do it...
DO IT NOW!
[This was where I was going to link builds but... I'm ALREADY giving you free advice, and I'm lazy so, no Smurphy for you!)
and tell me SHS suck...
Do you have to give up A LOT of firepower...? YES
Was it useless (read: 'non-meta' firepower) anyway...? Yes
DISCLAIMER:
I'm not a meta *****. I rock PPCs and LB10xs as much as anyone in this game. I hate the meta so much I felt obliged to put this disclaimer in my post. I LOVE non-meta builds... that's how I got here... what could be less meta than SHS? But when I figured this out I had to let you other forum warrior, battletech geek-type people know.
Do you give up speed...?
Oh yeah! Don't worry, you're still faster than that Dire Wolf
I can fire alphas ALL ******* DAY! These are LASER-boats that are HARD to overheat! ('THESE' refers to the builds I was going to include in this post before I realized that it's almost time to go home. Try Banshees and Battlemasters... Stalkers and Awesomes also work. ohhh Awesomes... I like them 'mechs)
You're welcome punks.
PS: [unrelated] Tier 2 is harder than Tier 3, despite what I thought at first, and I actually started running my best builds because I don't want to be demoted! Competition just makes ME even more OP!
i like pie

At the same time I could have used double heatsinks instead to get more firepower at the cost of cooling efficiency. Or I could have gotten a better engine.
They are both more of a trade-off than objectively better in all situations.

i like 2 ERLLs and like, 6 meds.
if i fire one or the other it never overheats, if i fire everything it takes like 41 seconds to overheat lol! plus i have some range. you get the idea though, just work on your builds

dubs also impose space limitations, you can only run 30 dubs (and with a 400std engine and not leaving space for things like weapons). 10 true dubs in the engine plus an additional 6 tons of sinks in the engine slots, and 20 tons in the side torsos and arms. thats 85.6 tons for 48 heat dissipation as the absolute maximum. you need to run a 100 tonner if you want to have weapons and armor as well, and it wont be much.
with singles you can cram every nook and crannie with sinks till you run out of tonnage. engine slots are less useful for single sinks, so you can just take a 250std to save tonnage. 38 more tons of sinks are needed to be equivalent to the max possible sinkage with dubs. you can get 30 sinks in the st, ct, and legs and 10 in the engine, then 5 in each arm. this gives you some slots for medium lasers and only uses 56.5 tons for engine and sinks. you can get another 11 sinks on top of that if you dont want any weapons and you run a mech without lower arm or hand actuators.
you can run something like this or this or this, the banshee being the less insane of the bunch. you get a 40 point alpha and better cooling than you could ever do with doubles and still pack firepower, more engine than 250 and a 40 point alpha.

Random Terribad example:
HGN-IIC 3LPL SHS
HGN-IIC 3LPL DHS
Go to the "Weaponlab" for dissipation and heat cap, with no risk of calculation errors (or not understanding how SHS work anymore...damn changes)

Parity with the IS equivalent mechs. Normal clan chassis don't have access the Clan singles, but since the IIC mechs are Clan retreads of IS chassis, it makes sense for them to have options equal to their IS counterpart.

What you mean by that? All I know is clans didn't have single heatsinks in the first place.

The Clans were formed by some Inner Sphere people exiling themselves to a corner of the galaxy, and took their IS tech with them. As such, they did actually start out with SHS and even have a few rare units still equipped with them (e.g. Piranha mech).
